Carl Thomas Lawson

Carl Thomas Lawson, age 63, of Mercersburg, PA and originally from Urbana, MD, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at his home. Born December 20, 1958, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of Margaret Ann Baughman "Peggy" Lawson and the late Rev. Harry Eugene (Gene) Lawson.

He was a 1976 graduate of Frederick High School. He worked with his parents on the farm, until they retired. Then, he drove a tractor trailer over the road (with no license). Later, he was employed at Talhelm's Gas Station near Greencastle, PA and finally by D. L. Martin Co. in Mercersburg for 28 years, until his retirement. While there, he received several awards for "Employee of the Month". He was a member of the Greencastle Sportsman's Association.

His hobbies included participating in many local Steam power and antique tractor events, annually, alongside his father where they would typically operate his dad's sawmill or threshing machine with his father's steam traction engine. He was an avid Nascar fan and rarely missed the races on tv. He also enjoyed drag racing, as well as mechanics and repairing small engines. He enjoyed riding his Harley and hunting for as long as his health would allow.

Carl had a tremendous amount of pride in all that he did, including maintaining his home and property, his Mustang, which he named" Mr. Ed" and his restored Ford pickup. He also had a huge, kind, generous heart. He read excerpts from his bible every morning, before starting his day.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Gabriel Lawson of Monrovia, MD, one granddaughter, Haylee Lawson, one grandson, Matthew Pfaff, one nephew, Nathan Lawson and two nieces, Ami Curtis and Angie Redding. In addition to his father, Carl was preceded in death by a daughter, Jessica Rose Lawson Pfaff and a grandson, Alex Pfaff. He was rarely seen without his dog, "Hemi", by his side. Unfortunately, as fate would have it, Hemi passed soon after Carl and they will be reunited during the burial, as Carl had requested.

Carl will be greatly missed by his loyal, invaluable friends Ronnie Pine, Jeff Poffenberger, Marvin Shoemaker and Richard Booth. Many others blow their horn as they pass his home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Two Top Ruritan Club in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania on April 16, 2023, at 1:00 o'clock PM and will be officiated by Rev. John Harpold.
