Carl Everett Parks was born in Austin, Texas on July 1, 1976 to Michael Shanks and Carolyn M. Shanks (nee Parks). He passed away on July 2, 2018. He is survived by his parents, brothers, Michael, David, James, and Mike, son, Christian, daughter, Madison and a grandson, Tristan (via Christian) and his paternal grandparents William and Edna Tolden as well as an extended family, which includes aunts, uncles, and cousins and friends.
He was raised by his aunt, Johnnie M. Parks, “Aunt Johnnie Mae” along with her two children Carrance “Ray Ray” Williams and Ashley Nash (nee Williams). Carl, who was nicknamed “Carly Mae” was a happy child who loved video games, sports, skateboarding and playing with his cousins.
Carl developed into a young man known for his good heart and incredible sense of humor. He continued his interest in sports, playing football and basketball in junior high and high school. Aunt Johnnie Mae has all of his trophies and ribbons from his games and competitions. During his high school years, he spent many weekends playing pick-up basketball games. Almost every Sunday, he played basketball with his Bible study teacher, Andy Tolley. Along with playing sports, Carl loved to sing and draw. Boy could sing!
Carl’s great love was Christine McMurray. Christian fondly remembers Carl singing Brian McKnight’s “Back at One” to Christine. Christine was the constant in his life, and she loved Carl with all of her heart. They cared for each other deeply. Sadly, Christine passed away on March 22, 2017.
Although Carl is no longer physically with us, we cherish our memories of him. We remember his smile. We remember his laugh. We remember the year he dyed his hair red after Malcolm X premiered in theaters. We remember that green suit Aunt Johnnie Mae made him wear, which he said made him look like a leprechaun. We remember him proudly holding Christian and Madison. We remember the love and light he brought to our lives. We have more memories than we can count of our Carl to comfort us during this difficult time.
We love you, Carl!

He was the best little cousin EVER, more like a little brother. He had a heart of gold and a voice as smooth as silk.
He had a hard journey as a child but was healed with God's loving hand and blessed with family that loved him with all of our hearts. We had so much fun as little kids and teenagers! Now your legacy live on with your children and grandchild.
We love you Carl Parks aka Car-laaaay Maeeeee! See you u in Paradise lil brother.
Love,
Alicia (Parks) Davis-Hernandez, Elora Chesunt and Amber Guyton
