Carl was one of my favourite people. I worked for Laurentide Finance at Nanaimo & Hastings from 1969-1971 and became friends with Carl. We talked almost daily about his running days with Harry Rankin, and I bought all my business clothes there for decades. Buon viaggo, Carl.

Goodbye to a great man and friend. I was a mens wear supplier and in all the time we did business he was unerringly kind, thoughtful and honest. He never raised his voice, was always calm and patient , and he exercised like a champion.
I still remember in the late 70s when we met. We would coincidently see each other on the Stanley park Seawall which both we did obsessively. In 1977 was 30 and had no idea how old Carl was, he never would say, and only today reolized he was 31 years older than me. Given his exercise ethic, I am greatly surpised.
My condolences to his children. He will be missed.

My deepest condolences to the Pepe family. Carl was a wonderful, gracious man. I first met him when I was a kid working across the street at Cunninghams drugstore as a delivery boy.. He gave me my first charge account....I was about 14 then.
Over the years we would bump into each other from time to time and then at the YMCA for several years. After I left the Y I would often see Carl on the sea wall and, of course, he always gave one the warmest of greetings. He will be missed. I am sorry that I missed his funeral service.

This is my 3rd attempt to say how sad I was that Carl died. On behalf of the Rankin family I wish to express our highest regards for Carl. He was a good friend to my father. I can recall many early morning on the sea wall my dad Harry and Carl and often Lucy in Stanley Park.

Of course Carl made Olympia Tailors a legend on East Hastings. I remember many visits suits measuring pins and chalk and good conversation.

I have many fond memories of Mr. Pepe (pappy). Growing up I spent numerous evenings at the Pepe household. Mr. Pepe always had a smile on his face and kind words to say. He was the only person I had even known who enjoyed a warm beer. I remember the surprise the first time I saw him put his bottle of beer under the hot water tap. My sympathy to the family, he will be dearly missed. I am blessed to have nice memories of such a lovely, gentle man.
