I'm sending my prayers and thoughts to your family, for I don't know the pain of losing a child but I'm sure its extremely hard. There is someone who can ease your pain and that's the good Lord above. He never puts anything on us that we can't bear. So continue to put your trust and faith in him and lead not on your own understanding. For my prayers will be you, stand strong through the storm.

My Dear Ms. Walker

I wish to extend my sincere heartfelt condolences and sympathy for the loss of your beloved son. Dear Carl is now safe in Heaven and is now one of God's Young Angels.

I, and I'm sure people around the country share in your pain and loss of your dear son. I only wish I had some words that could bring you some comfort during this most terrible time. As I learned of Carl's death, I couldn't hold back my tears or great sadness that filled my heart. I can only imagine how difficult it was for you to speak about your beloved son.

You're an inspiration, courageous and brave woman, Carl would be so very proud of you, as we are. By sharing your heartbreaking story, your educating people to the epidemic of bullying that takes place in our schools on a daily basis. As well as opening hearts and minds to the pain and suffering our young children endure. You're doing much to motivate others to take action to end bullying. This will serve to save other families from suffering the same loss as you. As an anti-hate and anti-bullying activist, I, and fellow activists, fought and lobbied for 7 years to get Florida to finally pass an anti-bullying bill. You have inspired me to work even harder to get national anti-bullying legislation passed, to put an end to this horrific epidemic.

I Pray Our Lord, God, Will Give You the Strength to Endure These Difficult Times. You and Carl Are in my Prayers and Thoughts, God Bless.

My deepest sympathy for the lost of your son Carl. May he be at peace now. When I heard about his death I cried for 3 days. I never meet Carl but he touched my heart.

April 20, 2009

The heart is like a street filled with streetlights. At least this is what I believe. And every once in a while one of those streetlights gets blown out-- a random accident does it maybe or just pure intention--which way or the other.

But once a light is blown, it takes a long time for someone to climb up there and replace the bulb. A very long time. This news was like someone hit a whole row of those lights out. An entire section just darkened for all kinds of misery, pain, and frustration to blossom and seep in at the shadows, the intention, you see, spreading--one way or the other.

The light will go back on
someday,
but it's a whole lot of waiting while looking at the damage done.

It is beyond reason, to lose those we love so dearly, so soon, without justification. I write to you on behalf of my Aunt Sandra Dagovitz Torrence and our family. My Auntie knew your little Carl quite well -and spoke of him with utmost regard. She simply adored him. His Spirit, as he travels now onto G-d, is in our prayers, and his beautiful smile is in our hearts. May his memory truly be for a blessing.

Although I only had the privilege of knowing Carl for a short time, I will always remember his bright and cheerful smile! I was a student teacher from UMass in his second grade classroom. I remember Carl as a bright, intelligent, and sweet child. I’ll never forget our field trip around Springfield, and our visit with the mayor. Carl got right up close to the mayor’s desk and was full of questions for him. Although it’s been a few years since I last saw Carl, I have thought of him many times since those second grade days. The world has lost an amazing boy. My thoughts are with your family at this very sad time.

Life must go on...although you're here no more,
You left friends and loved ones to walk through Heavens door

Life must go on...although I'll never see your smile,
Your memory lives on in my heart all the while

Life must go on...although Im short one-a friend,
In time my broken heart will mend

So much pain so much sorrow,
Because for you there is no tomorrow

Life must go on...although I ask myself why?
Why for you do I have to cry

So young so healthy so very strong,
I guess with the angels is where you belong

Life must go on...I picture your face,
Up in Heaven a more beautiful place

Than here on earth where you left me behind,
One day God will call, it will be my time

To hold your hand, see you again,
Until then Carl, you're my unforgotten friend

To the family of Carl Walker-Hoover, please know that I and many other mothers living nearby in Northampton are tremendously saddened by the loss of your beautiful and talented son, even though we did not know him. I am sorry that we don't have better schools for all our children, I am sorry that your son suffered the way he did, I am sorry that this tragedy has been visited upon you. May you and all of Carl's friends find all the love and support you need in the days and years to come. My thoughts are with you now, and will be with you and Carl for the rest of my life---whenever I think of bullying in the schools and of what I can do as a parent to help stop it.
