Carlton Ogawa Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun on Sep. 26, 2006.
OGAWA _ Carlton S. Carl passed away peacefully on the eve of a warm, sunny Vancouver day at St. Paul's Hospital with his family at his side. Carl was born August 29, 1934 in Alert Bay, B.C., and he is survived by his loving wife, Kay, son Michael and wife Marlene and their children William and Keiko, and son David and wife Amy. He is also survived by his sisters, Clara, Keiko and June, and brothers, Pat, George and Art. Kay will miss Carl dearly as her constant companion and soul mate for the past 44 years. Michael and David will remember him proudly as a silver medal winning Olympian and a father who taught them good values and work ethic. The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the staff at St. Mary's Hospital in Sechelt, and the doctors and nurses at the Intensive Care Unit of St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, all of whom worked tirelessly around the clock to look after Carl. At Carl's request, there will be no funeral service. The family would appreciate that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to St. Mary's Hospital in Sechelt or the Intensive Care Unit of St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver. Rest in peace Carl. Your suffering is over and you have now gone to a better place.

I was sad to hear of the passing of my Uncle Carl. I think of my memories of him as a kid. To me, he seemed to be the the wise and stoic Uncle but he could always sneak up and tickle me to tears when I least expected it. My thoughts are with you and I am glad that the family could be togther at this time.

I did not have the pleasure of meeting Carl, but I met his sons Dave and Mike. What wonderful men he has raised. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to Kay and the family. I know how difficult it must be, having been there before, but it gets better. You will remember all the wonderful time you spent together, this is a celebration of a life lived to the fullest. You are all in my prayers and God is by your side all the time. Take Care.

I'll miss Uncle Carl. I'll never forget him telling me to make nice faces for pictures he was trying to take of me when I was little. (I think in half of the pictures I'm probably sticking my tongue out anyways). I'll also never forget him betting that I'd last 3 months as a vegetarian (now pushing 15 years). Please know that I'm sending my love to Aunty Kay, David, Amy, Michael, Marlene and grandchildren..

Love,
