Carmen Cimini Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 23, 2016.
Carmen Cimini, 88, of Fairmount, passed away peacefully Tuesday September 20th at St. Joseph's Hospital with his son, Carmen; daughter, Marie and son-in-law, David at his side. He was born in Syracuse to the late Samuel and Lucy (DeBaise) Cimini in 1927. Carmen was raised in Solvay until he moved to Fairmount in 1955 with his wife, Dolores (Stanker) to raise their family. Carm joined the Navy in 1945 and was assigned to the USS Saratoga which was part of Operation Crossroads – ABLE and BAKER which were the atomic bomb tests in the Marshall Islands – Bikini Atoll. When discharged, he worked for New Process Gear (Chrysler) and retired in 1981. While at NPG he and another co-worker Nick Aragona started the 20/20 Club. The club was made up of co-workers and their spouses who would have monthly outings, dinners and weekend vacations, which to this day, is still active. Dad and Mom loved to travel, mostly to Las Vegas where they 'hobnobbed' with the top named entertainers back in the day when Vegas was Vegas. Dad was a member of various local organizations: Solvay-Geddes Vets, Solvay Tigers, American Bowling Congress, UAW - 624 and Loyal Order of Moose and a past communicant of St. Cecilia Church and Holy Family Church's. Carmen was predeceased by his wife Dolores in 1997; sister, Angie and brother-in-law, John K. Stanker.
Carmen is survived by his son, Carmen; daughter and son-in-law, Marie and David Podkowinski; sisters, Marie Johnson and Rosemary Allen; grandson, Specialist Carmen J. Cimini (Spec. Ops), of Fort Bragg, NC, granddaughter, Michelle Cimini, of Costa Mesa, CA and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 8:45 am Friday, September 30, 2016 at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME and 9:30 am at St. Cecilia Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 pm Thursday, September 29, 2016 at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Ave. Lastly, Dad's biggest event was to be part of Honor Flight Mission #4 – Oct 2014. He was amazed at the reception he, along with all the other veterans, received that day. With that said, PLEASE in lieu of flowers and Mass cards, kindly donate to this worthy cause… Honor Flight of Syracuse, Inc. PO Box 591, Syracuse, NY 13209.

Marie Lee, Carmie and family: Rich and I send our love and condolences. Our families have such a special bond and love that resulted in so many special memories. When our parents were together, there were always laughs and lot's of loud conversations; it was always the best of times when we all got together! Your Dad was a strong, sweet, funny man, I will miss him every day. He is now at peace, pain free and heaven has received another incredible angel. I bet your Mom and my Dad have already set up a card game or two. I wish you all peace and comfort.

Pod and Marie, Your dad was an awesome man. The first time we met, he treated me like I was part of his family. I'm sure the Holy Spirit brought me to Carmen when I needed some fatherly advice, encouragement, kindness, laughter, and even breakfast. He has left his mark on my life, as I'm sure he has on all those he met along the way. May you and your family draw comfort from knowing Carmen is resting for a bit in the arms of Jesus. Then he will be watching over us all, forever filling our hearts with the strength of his presence and love. Diane and Bob, Alden, NY

Interesting and sorry. Didn't know Carmen. He was no doubt did Boot Camp at Sampson N.T.C. in 45.' My brother Robert J. Stormes did also, same time.Gunners Mate aboard U.S.S. Fall River. Passed at Pearl Harbor enroute to Bikini Atol, Operation Crossroads, 5/1946. Just wondered, maybe Carmen knew my brother at Sampson. God Bless.
