Carmen J. Papa

YORK Carmen J. Papa died Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Manor Care Dallastown. He was the husband of the late Agatha R. (Zappia) Papa. A viewing will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, 2935 Kingston Road, York. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Edward Malesic as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery. The John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 902 Mt. Rose Ave., is assisting the family. Mr. Papa was born August 25, 1926, in New Castle, a son of the late Raffaele and Rose (Valentine) Papa. He was a chemist and quality control officer at Medusa Cement Company. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Carmen and eight brothers who served in the military during WWII. The family was honored by the U.S. Congress for their military service. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and the church's Knights of Columbus Council. Carmen is survived by his children, Ralph J. Papa and his wife, Sally, Regina L. Kindig and her husband, Craig, Rebecca L. Papa, and Michael J. Papa and his wife, Gloria all of York; and five grandchildren, James and Andrea Papa, and Christopher, Megan, and Jennifer Kindig. He was one of 10 children and is survived by a brother, General Ralph Pope, Phd. of Fairfax, Va.
