Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 24, 2024.
Carol Bayne Baughman, aged 90, passed away on June 19, 2024, in Townsend, Georgia. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, Carol led a distinguished and fulfilling life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his passions.

Carol served honorably in the US Navy for four years, a foundational experience that deeply influenced his life and values. After his military service, he pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Arts from the University of Tennessee. Carol's professional life was equally illustrious. He worked as a Civil Engineer, taught Engineering at Sumter Area Technical Education Center, Sumter, SC, where he was honored as Faculty Teacher of the Year, and spent 35 years at Baughman Land Surveyors in Lexington, SC. His leadership extended to roles such as President of the Midlands Chapter of Land Surveyors, President of the S.C. Land Surveyors, and Administrative Judge on the S.C. Procurement Review Board.

Carol was deeply committed to his faith, actively participating in the community of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Lexington, SC. His personal life was rich with hobbies that included golf, sailing, and woodworking-a craft through which he created many beautiful pieces, generously gifted to family and friends.

A dedicated family man, Carol is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Hall Baughman; brothers, Forrest Fulton Baughman of Bluffton, SC, and James Ray (Jim) Baughman of Okeechobee, FL; sister, Juanita (Nita) Baughman Turbeville of Augusta, GA; son, Timothy Bayne Baughman (Sherry) of Cary, NC; stepsons, Clay Sikes (Penny), Keith Sikes (Amanda), and Chris Sikes (Brittony); grandchildren Lena Marie Lindenauer (Kyle), Walter Baughman (Kaitlyn), Thatcher Channing Baughman, and granddaughters Zoey and Cora, Great Granddaughters Reilyn, Ruth, and Hannah. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Richard Baughman and Faye McCauley, and his son, Brand Channing Baughman.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, celebrating a life rich in achievements and blessings. Carol's legacy as a steadfast and generous man, proud sailor, and skilled woodworker will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
