Carol Durkee Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 30, 2018.
Following a long illness, Carol J. Durkee passed away at home in Sacramento on October 30, 2018 at age 85. A Sacramento native, Carol taught several generations in the Sacramento schools. With deep East Sacramento roots, she re-settled there after ten years in Edmonds, WA. Preceded in death by her husband Barry (1980), Carol's love of jazz led to involvement in the local jazz and ragtime societies. Lover of dogs, expert knitter, garden enthusiast, prodigious reader, photographer Carol had many interests and enjoyed the little pleasures of life. The family enjoyed many weekends at the cabin in Placerville, and sailing on Puget Sound. Her greatest pride and joy was her family, daughter Leslie (Lani), son-in-law Wally, and granddaughters Barrie and Annie, and she took great pleasure in following their activities. She is survived by her family in Cashmere, and Seattle, WA. At Carol's request, there will be no services but you can honor her by supporting music education via the Sacramento Jazz Education Foundation (sacjef.org).

Carol was one in a million! A tall, beautiful woman who loved jazz. A most caring person with a lust for life. I will miss her very much. Rest in peace.
