Carol Hankins Obituary

Published by News Journal on Aug. 14, 2018.
Carol Ann Hankins

Lexington - If there was such a thing as a professional grandma, Carol was one of the best! With the foundation she set as a loving mother she knew what needed done. She could always be found at any event her grandchildren were in. She had her chair and cowbell ready to cheer them on (almost embarrassing them at times) and always had snacks for them too. Mama will be greatly missed.

Carol Ann Hankins passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018 at home. She was 71.

She was born October 4, 1946 to parents Howard & Irene (Blomquist) McNabb in Ashland. She graduated from Washington High School in Washington Court House with the class of 1964. She also graduated from Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing with the class of 1967.

On February 14, 1987, she married Thomas "Bill" Hankins and they shared 19 years of marriage until he passed away in 2006. Now they are together again.

Carol had a work ethic that was admirable. A perfectionist by nature she was a dedicated and hard-working woman. She worked as an RN at People's Hospital as well as Mansfield General for 40 years before retiring in 2007. After retiring she went back to work at StarTek. No one would ever tell Carol that she couldn't do something because if they did she would make a point of doing it just to prove them wrong.

Carol loved to travel. From cruises to camping Carol enjoyed it all. But by far her favorite place was the beach. Every year the whole family would take a trip to a timeshare at a beach to spend time together whether she could afford it or not.

She is survived by her children Jeffrey D. and Bonnie Graska of Ravenna and Amy E. and Kaleb Snavely of Bellville; grandchildren Gabriel, Daniel, Samuel and Andrew Graska, Cody and Mary Snavely, Alexis and Whitney Snavely; 7 great-grandchildren with one on the way; sister-in-law Carma Hankins of Lexington; sisters and brothers-in-law Patricia and Marvin Heinberger of Mansfield, Paula Campbell and Janet and Mark Workman all of Washington Court House; cherished friend Pat Graska; numerous nieces and nephews; and her cat Scarlet.

In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law Rex D. Hankins and Michael B. Campbell; and cherished friend Bob Graska.

The Hankins family will receive friends Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 12-2 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service honoring Carol's life will begin immediately at 2 p.m. Pastor Paul Lintern will speak. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.

So many memories of Carol coming to pick up patients for surgery. Always smiling, comforting, reassuring, professional and willing to take that extra time to be sure they were comfortable and ready to go. Great nurse, great person who made the world a better place. So glad I knew her !! May the memories along with Faith , Friends, and Family get those loved ones left behind through this difficult time. fly high with your new wings, you earned every feather !!!

Carol was the #2 sister in our group of four. There were many times that Mom called each one of us PattyCarolPaulaJanet or some version of that :) Thank you Carol for our fun beach vacations and our day trips to Cape Hatteras and New Orleans. I will continue to cherish those memories. I love you. Watch over us all until we meet again, dear Sister Chick #3.
