COLUMBIA CITY — Carol Ann Hoffman, 77, of rural Columbia City died at 7:09 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at Miller's Merry Manor, Columbia City, after an extended stay.
She was born Jan. 10, 1938, in Allen County, Indiana, the daughter of Eugene and Gertrude (Fuhrman) Radke. The Radke family moved several times, even settling in Arkansas for a time before returning to the Columbia City area. Carol graduated from Columbia City High School in 1956.
On June 23, 1956, she was united in marriage to Richard L. Hoffman at the Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Graham Kleespie officiating.
Carol was employed at Blue Bell until becoming a stay-at-home mother. In 1975, she became the first part time secretary for Grace Lutheran Church and then spent 20 years as a typesetter for Columbia City Post & Mail before retiring in 2008.
A lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, she was also a member of the Deborah Group. She established the Smith Township Worker Bees and served as their 4-H leader and was also a member of the Tawasi Extension Homemakers Club.
Carol and Richard enjoyed 20 years of Western Square Dancing with Whitley County and Warsaw Circling Squares.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; two daughters, Rebecca (Tony) Mangas of Mansfield, Ohio, and Colleen Hoffman of Columbia City; a daughter-in-law, Karen Hoffman of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Joseph (Laura) Mangas, Timothy (Sara Kent) Mangas, Jordan (Amber) Hoffman, Michaela Hoffman, Chelsea (Jason) Kuse and Joshua Franklin; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Connie Guenther of San Angelo, Texas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dean Hoffman; a grandson, Tristan Bender; a great-grandson; and a brother, Gene Radke.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, 204 N. Main St., Columbia City, with visitation after 9:30 a.m.
The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery.
The visitation will also be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
Preferred memorials are to Grace Lutheran Church.
