Carol Leyland Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Oct. 12 to Oct. 13, 2007.
LEYLAND It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Carol Lorna Leyland affectionately known to family and close friends as Savta. Savta died peacefully with her loving children at her side on October 4, 2007 at 8:30pm. Savta is survived by her two daughters, two sons, five grandchildren and two sisters. Son Loy and his children Hanna and Eli, daughter Elise, daughter Jacquie and her son Eric and son Ian and his sons Etie and Ben. Sisters Rhoda and Betty. Savta was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota. She spent the wartime years in California and came to Canada shortly after the second world war with her husband Dr. Eric Emanuel Leyland. Carol and Eric eventually settled in Vancouver where they raised their four children. Savta will always be remembered for her exceptional generosity, compassion and absolute commitment to her children and grandchildren. Savta loved to celebrate life and took every opportunity to gather family and friends to share and celebrate together with her great cooking and wisdom. Over the past 60 years Savta was a second mother to many individuals who during times of difficulty in their own lives would find solace and sanctuary in her home. She shared many interests with her loving husband Eric including antique cars, steam trains and antique clocks. Savta will be dearly missed and live on in our memories. A memorial gathering will be held at Vancouver Maritime Museum (The TK Gallery) on October 21, 2007 beginning at 1:00pm ending at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Louis Brier Home and Hospital or charity of choice.
