Carol Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 28 to May 29, 2022.
Carol Cameron Miller was escorted to her eternal home on Thursday, May 26, 2022, and into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. We are certain she was met by Lonnie, her adoring husband of fifty-four years, shouting "GLORY!" as he saw her coming through the gate. Born on Christmas Day, 1934, she was fittingly named Carol. In 1971, Carol understood and supported the call of God on Lonnie's life. So, together they brought their family of five from Houston, TX to Mobile, AL and founded the Mission of Hope, Mobile's oldest in-house rehab for the male alcoholic and drug addict. What began fifty years ago, has expanded to multiple campuses housing 175 residents including men, women and even clients' young children. Literally tens of thousands of lives have been forever changed at no cost to those served, because of the love of Jesus shown through Lonnie and Carol Miller. Carol led the Ladies' Auxiliary, providing the woman's touch to the mission. For 48 years, she made sure each mission resident had several wrapped and labeled gifts at Christmas. In the early years, she cooked every meal for all the men and made beautiful personalized cakes for each man's birthday. She gathered, washed and organized the clothing closet so each man would have clean clothes, shoes and necessary hygiene supplies. Lonnie and Carol were lovingly called "Mom and Dad Miller" by many of the mission's residents over the years. Following Lonnie's promotion to Heaven in 2011, Carol continued as a volunteer at the mission three days a week, and served on the Board of Directors until 2019, when she was no longer physically able to do so. As a faithful servant through her church, Crawford Baptist, Carol taught senior adult ladies' Sunday school for 20+ years, chaperoned numerous youth camps and choir tours, served on mission trips, taught in VBS and over the years, led many Good News Clubs in her own home. Her gorgeous wedding cakes were gifts of love for dozens of Crawford's members, her family and friends. In addition to her husband, Lonnie Lee Miller, Carol was preceded in death by her parents, G.B. and Minnie Cameron. Survivors include her three children: Brenda (Troy) Finlay, Cheryl "Peppi" (Gary) Garrett and Guy (Carmen) Miller. Carol adored her grandchildren: Jessica (Eric) Smith, Tray (Sheryl) Finlay, Paige (Chris) Emerson, Kenny (Meaghan) Garrett, Dalton (Elizabeth) Garrett and Alicia (Cody) Perkins. We pray her legacy of faith and love continues through her twelve great grandchildren: Kayleigh, Tanner, Hunter, Jake, Breann, Aimie, Gunner, Lawson, Emma, Colton, Quinten and Caiden. Carol is also survived by her sister, Ethel MacDonald, as well as nieces, nephews and special lifetime friends, Dud and Bonnie Brantner. Carol's life will be celebrated in a service on Thursday, June 2, 2022; 6:30pm, at Crawford Baptist Church; 3000 Sun Valley Dr., Mobile, AL 36618. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made in Carol's memory to the Crawford Baptist Church Building Fund. The family wishes to thank friends and loved ones for every prayer and expression of love. Her passing was so calm and peaceful. Thank you also to Saad Healthcare. You truly were a godsend. Mostly, we thank our Heavenly Father for the beautiful blessing of being the children and grandchildren of Carol Miller, for she pointed us all to Jesus; and that is what matters most of all.

Treasure....Ms Carol has finally reached Heaven
where she has stored up Treasure for years. This is a time when we are to grieve, but not for too long. She is at peace with Jesus and everything is alright.
