Carol Shoub Obituary

Published by Post-Tribune on Dec. 6, 2018.
Carol Shoub, known and loved by so many friends and family, quietly passed away on November 30, 2018 at Keepsake Village in Columbus, Indiana. Carol was born on August 10, 1924 in Gary Indiana to Gertrude and Martin Westergren. She and her sister Peggy grew up in Miller competed in monthly and annual talent contests from the age of 3 to 12 years old. Carol and her sister were extremely talented as they danced, played the violin, sang, performed short skits or showed off acrobatic skills. Carol was swept off her feet in 1945 by the ever-so-charming Donald Gray Shoub who had served in World War II, including storming Omaha Beach on D-Day. Carol and Don lead a generous and adventurous life. They lived in a home they built in Key Largo until returning to Indiana. Carol loved the ocean and lobster fishing but more than that, they loved opening their home to others. Carol is survived by her sister Peggy Newton of Portage, Indiana, two children: Christine Mullholand and Don (Donnie) Shoub of Durango Colorado, grandchildren Steve (Stevie) Mullholand of Key Largo, Florida, Michelle (Shelley Beans) Westermeier of Sheridan, Indiana and several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at the 4 Corners Health Center, Durango, Colorado at 3 pm December 9. A scattering of her ashes will be aboard her grandson Steve's sailboat, Moving On, in Key Largo, FL, the last week of January, 2019. A third memorial will be held in Gary after the 1st of the year.
