Carol Elizabeth Lahti Smith, beloved Mom, "MeMe" (Grandmother, Great-Grandmother,) sister, aunt and cherished friend, passed away on June 11, 2024. She resided in Summerfield, FL and Bellaire, MI.

Carol was born on Nov. 13, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan to Elizabeth Tabar Lahti and Dr. Paul T. Lahti. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1971 with a B.A. degree. Her career spanned many years in mortgage banking in The Villages, FL and later as a real estate agent. She loved her work: "being able to find the best financial way possible to help to make people's dreams a reality."

Carol married Grady Smith III, in 1999, in The Villages, FL, where they lived on a nearby horse farm. Together they raised Grady's sons, Kyle and Casey. More than anything, Carol loved family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Smith III, her mother and father, and siblings, Ted and Linda.

She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her sons; Stephan "Kyle" Smith, Brian "Casey" Smith, siblings; Jim (Lola Lahti,) Cathi Smith, Christine Lahti (Thomas Schlamme), eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, six nieces and nephews, and many friends in Northern Michigan and Florida- all of whose lives were deeply enriched by her great gift for loving.

Arrangements have been made with Beyers Funeral Home at 1123 W. Main St. Leesburg, FL for viewing on June 21 from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. and the funeral service on June 22 at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held following the funeral at noon in the Spruce Creek South Clubhouse in Summerfield, FL. Burial will be at the Townsend Cemetery in Hawthorne, FL at 3 p.m. A memorial service will be held in Bellaire, Michigan at a later date.
