Carol Strathman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 27 to Mar. 6, 2024.
Carol Jean Strathman, age 84, of Minneapolis, MN originally from Cresco, IA, passed away on Tuesday, October 17th, 2023 at Providence Place home.

Carol was born on May 4th, 1939 in Cresco, IA to Monica and Frank Strathman. Carol and her siblings, Marilyn Novak (Cresco, IA), Jan Sebastian (Eldridge, IA) and Frank Strathman, Jr. (Dubuque, IA) all graduated from Notre Dame Catholic School in Cresco, IA.

In 1960, Carol went on to graduate from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing, in Mason City, IA. As an esteemed nurse, Carol spent time working with new born babies, supporting the elderly in nursing home care, and finished her career as an in-home nurse with babies in need of special assistance.

She loved to laugh on the phone with her sisters, Marilyn and Jan, sharing stories of when they were children. Singing in the choir or on any occasion. In her free time she loved to sew and knit, while in her later years she loved puzzles, reading, and playing BINGO. Her nurses at Providence shared stories about her laugh, and kindness as she would hand out Werther's candies to everyone she scooted past.

Carol was preceded in death by her mother, Monica E. Strathman (Posakony), father Frank J. Strathman and sister Marilyn Novak.

Survivors include her son Michael Nitchals (Palos Verdes Estates, CA) and grandsons, Cory and Devin. Her daughter Jean Nitchals (Minneapolis, MN). Her sister Janet Sebastian and brother Frank Strathman.

Private family graveside services will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Cresco, IA on her birthday, May 4, 2024.

Carol, Marilyn, my other sister, and I were always very close. Even though we lived far apart, once a year the three of us would travel and meet in a restaurant near where Carol lived to just enjoy each other´s company. The laughs would go on for hours! Those memories are forever in my heart. Sleep in Jesus´ arms, Carol, til we meet again.

Our mom loved to sing and laugh. Everyone who had a birthday she would make sure to sing loudly too. Not a first memory however she loved to scoot around handing out werther´s candies to all of her neighbors.
