Carol June (Franke) Thiel, age 97, of Manitowoc, died Friday, February 5, 2016 at her residence at River Woods Place, 950 South Rapids Road, Manitowoc.

Carol was born on June 28, 1918 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Arthur H. and Anna (Reindl) Franke. Carol attended local area schools and graduated with the class 1936 from Manitowoc Lincoln High School. Carol worked for Manitowoc Company, Crane Division until her retirement. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, now Lakeshore United Methodist Church, since she was 9 years old. Carol enjoyed cooking, baking and her work at the church.

Survivors include one daughter: Anne Reuther, New Berlin; one son and daughter-in-law: Bill (Carol) Thiel, Janesville; one grandson: Chris Reuther, Milwaukee; two granddaughters: Cori (Conrad) Saltero, Austin TX; Mona (Terry) Jacobs, Waterford; three great-granddaughters: Santana Keehan, Deforest; Shelby & Emily Jacobs, Waterford; four sisters-in-law: Mary Franke, Wauwatosa; Marian Malek, Manitowoc; Shirley Graykowski, Manitowoc; Marian Thiel, Manitowoc, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters and five brothers-in-law: Ethel (Ray) Jagodinsky; Lucille Franke; Florence (Edgar) Knutson; Grace (Silas) Pierce; Violet (Robert) Garberg; Jeanette (Harold) Boldt; Marjorie (Paul) Allen; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Milton (Eleanor) Franke; Russell (Eleanore) Franke; Arthur "Bud" Franke; one son-in-law: Roger Reuther; one daughter-in-law: Rita Thiel.

A Memorial service and celebration of Carol's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Lakeshore United Methodist Church, 1130 South 9th Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Nancy Dvorachek will officiate with internment of her cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. The Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. The family would like to thank Carol's extended family at River Wood Place, Elizabeth Pankratz, Jeremy Denor, Stacy Shepard, Brittany and Nicki and the entire staff at Home Care Health Services and Hospice, Dr. Thomas Rauschenberger and Dr. Jeffery Corrigan for the thoughtfulness and compassionate care given Carol during her long stay.
