Carol Townsend Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 15, 2024.
Our fun loving, independent mother, Carol Ann Townsend, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024 at her senior living residence in Novi, Michigan. A fierce love for family, friends, life, and cottage created a legacy she leaves to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Our mother was born on January 23, 1938 to Alexander and Hazel Findlay in Detroit, Michigan. When she wasn't at home in Detroit, she spent her summers at her cottage on the shores of Hillsboro Beach, Ontario. She attended Michigan State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. During her time at Michigan State, she met our father, Gordon Lee Townsend. After marrying, our parents lived in many places around the world and country thanks to the United State Air Force and Ford Motor Company. They created a beautiful life and family together having five children; Dianne (Kevin) Corcoran, Susan (Peter) Wright, Linda (Daniel) Jackson, David (Donna) Townsend, and Robert (Heather) Townsend. Our mother was blessed with seven grandchildren: Sean, Megan, Christine, Tori, Michael, Kelly, and Findlay, as well as five great grandchildren: Graham, Hazel, Max, Althea, Jack, and Charlotte, and many grand dogs and cats. She continued to be a champion of children by completing an Associates Degree in Nursing from Schoolcraft College, and worked as a nurse in diagnostic imaging at Detroit Children's Hospital.

Our mother was a member of many organizations, always willing to volunteer and lend a hand wherever needed. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday School, managed the Cradle Roll for new babies born into the church, the Mariners Club, Mother's Club, Girl Scout Leader, 4-H Leader, Burnt Store Yacht Club, and many more...

She was a certified scuba diver with over 120 dives. She lived an active life of bike riding, sailing, boating, kayaking, swimming, playing tennis, along with reading, playing bridge, dominoes, and baking treats for her large family. Our mother had numerous friends that she met as she journeyed along the way in life, and continued to maintain those friendships until the end. One of her friends, Bayard French, became a companion and source of comfort to her after our father's passing. We are grateful to Bayard and the French family for the love that they showed to our mother.

The family invites you to help celebrate Carol's extraordinary life at 3:00p.m. on Thursday, June 27th, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church of Northville. It is followed by a reception immediately afterward at the Garage Grill in Northville, Michigan.

I sit here today thinking of Carol during this holiday season. I worked with Carol at CHM for many years. After we parted ways, we kept in touch every holiday season with letters thru the mail. I looked forward to her letter every year and when one didn´t come last year, I was surprised/concerned. So, today I sadly find her obituary before starting my annual letter. My condolences to her family! I know she was proud and loved all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren! I will keep/cherish her last letter from 2022. I planted a tree in her memory. Carol loved the outdoors. Prayers for the family during this 1st Xmas without her!

I never knew families had dessert after dinner until i had dinner with the Townsends! Mrs Townsend served dessert after every dinner and I was lucky enough to enjoy so many dinners with this amazing family. I could not be more blessed to have known and be loved by Carol Townsend.

Carol was a great friend. She lived life to the fullest. She was always there to give an ear or advice. She helped me through good and bad times and was truly a second mother to me. She was wonderful to my children and always made us feel welcome in her home. We have so many great memories with her but being out on the water on Lake Huron, in the boats, swimming and skiing will be one of them. She has a beautiful family that will miss her dearly and I am blessed that they have always made myself and my family apart if it. We are truly sorry for your loss, and will always have her in our hearts. Peace and love always, from your friends,Suzi(Green) and Eddie Rosett
