Carol Wilkinson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 7 to Feb. 9, 2024.
Tallahassee - On January 24th 1945 in Rockaway Beach New York, John and Katherine Bunn became the proud parents of their first-born Carol. Carol died on the 23rd of January 2024 the day before her 79th birthday. Her almost 79 years were characterized by her life of service.

After her education at St Matthew's grade school and Bishop Kenny High school in Jacksonville, 18-year-old Carol went to Miami to attend Mount Sinai Nursing School. After nursing in Miami and Jacksonville, she settled at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where she retired in 2011 after 39 years of service. There she gained the respect of her coworkers for her old school way of nursing and for her kindness for all patients. All this was noted with her 2004 nomination for TMH nurse of the year.

Alongside her husband at the time Jim, they established the well-known tropical fish store Fish Freaks in the early 70s. Her true devotion was for her sons James and David whom she lovingly raised in her Lafayette Park home. Their Georgia street home was always the place to be and under her guidance they have become exemplary men.

Carol welcomed two wonderful daughters-in-law, Stephanie and Amy, to the family. She was also blessed with five beautiful grandchildren Drew, Erika, Charlotte, Abigail, and Benjamin.

A lifelong Catholic, Carol was a constant fixture every Sunday at Blessed Sacrament Church, even in her declining years. Her rosary was never far from her hands.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents John and Kay Bunn and by her "loved by all" brother Denny.

Remembering sweet Carol are her siblings John Bunn, Ginny Bunn, Mary Watson and sisters-in-law Rosemary Laban Bunn and Nina J. Bunn. Aunt Carol will also be dearly missed by Jon Garzaniti, Jaime Sumner, Michael Burchfield, Erin and Adam Watson, and John Bunn IV. All survivors will strive to follow her kind, caring, and loving example of life.

On April 5th, at 11:30 a service and respite will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church to celebrate Carol's fruitful life.
