Carole Jean DeMoss
December 21, 1934 - October 16, 2021
Born December 21, 1934, Carole passed away October 16, 2021. As a very young child, Carole was adopted by Louise and Sam Sandlovich and had a loving home in which to grow up. She graduated in 1952 from Lincoln High School, then attended the University of Nebraska. While there, she met and married William (Bill) Gubser. They had three children, son Bruce, daughter Shelley and son Mark. After the children were grown, Carole and Bill divorced.
Carole joined the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) in 1962, and enjoyed serving in various appointed and elected offices of the Chapter at the local, district and state levels, becoming Worthy Grand Matron of the Nebraska Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, in 1979-80. Her current memberships were in Alpha Chapter # 325, Bellevue, NE, and Harmony Chapter #4, Honolulu, HI.
It was through such fraternal memberships that Carole and James (Jim) DeMoss met, and they were married in the Fall of 1981. After Jim retired from Omaha State Bank and completed his service as Grand Master of the Nebraska Grand Lodge, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, the couple moved to Hawai'i where they lived for over 22 years, remaining active in various masonic-related activities and organizations.
Carole was tapped by Eastern Star General Grand Chapter to serve as the Deputy in Hawai'i to the Most Worthy Grand Matron, a position she held for over ten years, and also as an OES Ambassador to the Philippines for three years. Carole and Jim decided to return to Nebraska and make their home in Lincoln to be close to family, and they did so in July of 2015.
Jim passed away in June of 2016. Carole will be missed by family members and friends alike, including her children (natural and step), her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her cousin Jean Miller, and a multitude of friends.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 11am on November 2, 2021, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 8320 South St, Lincoln, NE. Visitation with family prior to service. Memorial donations may be made to the Nebraska Masonic Home Foundation or to the Nebraska Masonic-Eastern Star Home for Children. Condolences online at Roperandsons.com
