Carole F. Kern, age 90, died January 23, 2018, in Southport.
Originally from North Bergen, New Jersey, Mrs. Kern spent most of her life in Meadville, Pennsylvania, where she raised three children with her husband, novelist and Allegheny English Professor Alfred Kern.
Mrs. Kern held Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Allegheny College. From 1964 to 1989, she taught second and sixth grades, primarily at First District Elementary School in Meadville. She was a founding officer of the teachers union, and a supporter of the Meadville Public Library.
Mrs. Kern was preceded in death by her husband (2009), her daughter Pamela Quinn (2012), and her grandson Patrick D. Quinn (2017).
She is survived by her son Stephen F. Kern, daughter Sheridan K. Imirziades and sons-in-law D. Robert Quinn and Demetrius N. Imirziades. She also leaves four grandchildren: Sarah C. Quinn, Riku Kern, Georgia Imirziades and Ourania Imirziades.
The family is grateful to Ms. Donna Maxwell and Bob Quinn for the help and support they provided to Mrs. Kern during the last years of her life.

My deepest sympathy is expressed to Carole's family and friends. I was school secretary at First District Elementary School (1980-1985) where she taught . Carole was a lovely woman, wonderful teacher, and I loved her dearly. I'm so saddened to hear of her passing.
