Carole Tain Soskin (1937-2022) and Perry H. Soskin (1943-2024)

With profound love and remembrance, we honor the lives of Carole Tain Soskin, who passed away on October 31, 2022, in New York City, and Perry H. Soskin, who departed on January 28, 2024, in Florida. Their memories will forever be a blessing to those who knew them.

**Carole Tain Soskin**

Carole was born on August 19, 1937, in Queens, New York. A true New Yorker at heart, she embraced the vibrancy of the city and made her home on the Upper West Side, where her warmth and charisma allowed her to form connections effortlessly. She devoted her life to education as a high school English teacher for over three decades, beginning her career in her early twenties. Her passion for teaching left an enduring impact on countless students who remember her with admiration and gratitude.

An avid reader with a deep love for literature, Carole passed this passion on to her children. She was also a devoted reader of *The New York Times*, earning recognition for her skill by winning several crossword competitions and even contributing articles to the publication. Beyond her literary pursuits, Carole was an exceptional tennis player who continued to play well into her eighties.

Carole's warmth extended far beyond her family. She had a gift for connecting with strangers and lifting their spirits while forming lasting friendships along the way. Her commitment to community was evident in her involvement with Rodeph Sholom Synagogue, where she actively participated in donations and the book club. A strong and independent woman, Carole worked tirelessly to provide for her two children while imparting values that shaped their lives.

One of Carole's cherished memories was traveling to Israel with one of her children many years ago. The month-long journey deepened their bond as they shared laughter and transformative experiences together. Her unconditional love for her children and grandchildren defined much of her life; she always offered wise counsel-even if it wasn't immediately recognized as such-and brought joy wherever she went.

Carole is remembered as a sister to two younger brothers, a beloved grandmother, and a source of light to everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Her legacy of love, resilience, and kindness will live on forever.

**Perry H. Soskin**

Perry entered this world on December 10, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York. Raised by his mother after losing his father at the young age of 14, he grew up with his brother Roy under challenging circumstances that shaped his determination and drive.

Perry worked tirelessly to create a better life for himself. He began his career working under former New York City Mayor Ed Koch before becoming a successful real estate developer. His work contributed significantly to revitalizing neglected areas across Brooklyn and NYC-a legacy that stands as a testament to his vision and dedication.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Perry loved both playing tennis-until his knees and hips no longer allowed him-and later golf. He was also an ardent fan of the Yankees and cherished taking his children to games at Yankee Stadium. Those outings were filled with hot dogs, peanuts, laughter, and moments of excitement when cheering on their team-or frustration when players struck out.

Perry's devotion to his family shone brightly in everything he did. From sushi dinners where he always asked for "more ginger" to relaxing evenings enjoying Chinese takeout together while watching TV, he created simple yet meaningful traditions that remain etched in memory.

He faced many health challenges throughout his life-including cancer-with remarkable strength and resilience. Even during difficult times near the end of his life in Florida after battling illness for years, Perry maintained his sense of humor and unwavering love for his family. One poignant memory remains: in his final days he told his daughter Erica words that continue to resonate deeply-"Erica, you've got to go on with your life."

Perry adored being a grandfather to his grandsons and took immense pride in their lives. His love knew no bounds; it was fierce yet tender-a legacy he leaves behind alongside treasured memories of joy-filled days spent together.

**A Shared Legacy**

Together Carole and Perry embodied strength, resilience, unconditional love for their children David and Erica (affectionately known by Perry as "Pooh Bear"), devotion to their grandchildren, and an enduring connection that continues beyond this world. Their spirits remain close when they are needed most-a comforting presence guiding those they loved so dearly.

May their memories forever be blessings etched into our hearts-reminders of lives beautifully lived with passion, purpose, humor, warmth-and above all else-love eternal.

Dear mom and dad,
I want to thank you for all of the sacrifices you made, as well as your unconditional love. You always encouraged me to make my artwork, and to have a joyful, fulfilling life. Mom, I will never forget our visits. You always made sure that we did things that we fun, and exciting. I'll never forget when we went to that wild bird store. I know going in there was perhaps not your cup of tea, yet you did, because you knew my deep love of animals. We had quite a laugh at the geese running around the store! We also went to the Highline, walking and enjoying the sights, as well as visiting the Cathedral of St John the Divine, in search of the Peacocks that were there. And, then there were fun trips to Zaabars, picking out delicious lox, bagels, whitefish, and the cheeses you loved. Of course, we had to have Sal and Carmine's pizza too! A neighborhood classic! Everywhere we went, everyone knew you. You were such a die hard New Yorker! You are missed by so many people, and the Upper West Side will never be the same. I miss you everyday mom. I love you eternally.
Dear Dad,
It's been a little over a year since you passed. I wear your yankees hat and shirt very often, remembering us going to see the Yanks play. You always made sure that my brother and I were happy. We would go to your apartment, and you loved making us dinner, and, when you got a cappuccino maker, you would always enjoy making us a cup. You taught me to be strong. You encouraged me to continue my education. I recall how you went to my high-school track competitions. Even when people started leaving the stands, I would look put and see you cheering me on. I wasn't the fastest runner, but you were so proud of me. I'll never forget how you would hand up my paintings, and how you always encouraged me to do my artwork. You never got angry. You were such a calm dad. And a loving dad, who called me Pooh Bear my entire life. You would take me ice skating as a child. I remember that you would also go ice skating. One time you fell, and I was so sad, but you got right up, and didn't complain. You took things as they came, even cancer. You didn't complain or search for sympathy, you continued on with your life, without complaining. I miss you so much dad. I miss hearing Pooh Bear. You will always, eternally, be in my memory. Mom and dad, I love you eternally. And someday, we will meet again.
