CAROLINA VERCELES MANIBOG 1916-2008 Carolina Verceles Manibog, 91, formerly of Arroyo Grande died Mar. 30, 2008 in Los Angeles. Carolina Verceles Manibog known as Liling by her family was born at the Mary Johnson Hospital in Manila, Philippine Islands on June 5, 1916. She was the oldest child of Arturo Verceles, Sr. and Genoveva Marcelino. Her father was a veteran policman of his home town and the City of Manila. Her mother was a homemaker. She had two younger brothers, Pedro an Attorney who passed away in 1976 in Los Angeles and Arturo Jr. an Engineer who lives in Los Angeles. As a child and youth, Carol loved to sew and play the piano. She attended the Lincoln Primary School, the Legarda Elementry School, the Mapa High School, and the Philippine Normal School where she obtained a teaching degree. She took dance courses at the University of the Philippines. She also enrolled at the Laperal Music Academy for a piano career. In 1945, she Liborio (Lee) Manibog, a corporal in the U.S. Army with General McArthur's 2nd Filipino Regiment that landed in Leyte. They were married on November 19, 1945 in Sampaloc, Manila. On July 4, 1947, she came to California with her husband and settled in Malibu where Lee was employed as a cook for the Coates family. Jesse Lee their only son was born on December 25, 1947 at Santa Monica Hospital. In April 1968, Mama Coates passed away, so on December 1968, they moved to Arroyo Grande, while their son lived in Santa Monica and attended U.C.L.A. Jesse Lee met and married Dannielle Delcourt from Montreal, Canada, Jesse Lee passed away on February 2, 1999 in Reno, Nevada. Carol was an active member of the Filipino Community of San Luis Obispo County, Inc., The Filipino Women's club, The South County Seniors, The Harvest Bag and the Economic Opportunity Commission. She was also a member of the Saint Patrick Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Liborio who passed away in 1991 and son Jesse Lee in 1999. She is survived by daughter-in-law Danielle, four grand children, Jason, Garrett Lee, Jeremy, and Tisha, a brother Arturo, several nieces and nephews and great-grandchildren Jaden Lee and Ashley Marie. A Vigil service will be held Fri., Apr. 18th at 6 P.M. at Lady Family Mortuary with a Memorial Mass the 19th at 10 A.M. at St, Patrick's Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Lady Family Mortuary and Crematory of Arroyo Grande.
