Carolyn Cornelius Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 19, 2023.
Carolyn Faller Cornelius passed away on February 13, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was 81 years old, the loving widow of Russell Martin Cornelius. Carolyn was a proud graduate of Luscher Elementary, McMain Junior High, Fortier High School, and Louisiana State University, where she finished in three years. Her life was filled with adventure and joy, compassion and curiosity, culture and kindness. She loved listening to classical music, working in her garden, reading about new places and people, traveling the world (especially cruises and beach trips with her family), collecting antique furniture and glassware, cheering for her favorite LSU Tigers, Tulane Green Wave and Army Black Knights football teams, and visiting with friends and neighbors. Carolyn worked for several years for the City of New Orleans as a social worker, helping to put her beloved husband through law school. Her true passion, however, was found in her position as a full-time wife and mother to her three children. She is survived by her children, Allison Cornelius Alleva (Quentin), Roger Cornelius (Pamela Boudreaux), and Cecily Cornelius-White, as well as four grandchildren (Robert and Jonathan Alleva, Avery and Evan Cornelius-White). Carolyn was an active member of the Orléans Club, Grass Roots Garden Club, Entre Nous Book Club, as well as New Orleans and Metairie Country Clubs. She also remained proudly connected to her high school sorority Delta Beta Sigma as well as her LSU chapter of Tri Delta sorority. She was a devoted parishioner at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Metairie, Louisiana. Carolyn will be remembered for her love of nature and her respect for the overwhelming beauty of the world, and most especially for her love of and connection to family. She will be deeply missed. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, February 20th from 10:00 a.m. until noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, Louisiana. A funeral mass will be held at noon after the visitation. Interment will be private. I think of Carolyn and your family often as I pass by your neighborhood street. Carolyn was one of the kindest, well-grounded persons I knew and was a major force for compassion for those who are blessed to have known her. I am grateful for her witness and know that she is fully living in God's grace and care. Sarah Kreutziger

Carolyn was a smart, beautiful, gentle lady who was genuinely kind and compassionate. She was always extremely lovely to our family and to everyone she knew. I was so sorry to read of her death and wish her family comfort and peace at this difficult time. We are praying for all of you.

I was saddened to read of the death of your mother, Cici and Allyson. She was such a lovely lady, so helpful when all of us were at McGehee's. The last time I saw her was at a concert where the intermission allowed us to catch up on old times. I will be thinking about you and your family.
