Carolyn Donnelly Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 27 to Feb. 28, 2010.
Softly in the morning, you heard a gentle call, you took the hand God offered you, and quietly left us all….Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, Carolyn Bean Donnelly, 79, of Stanton Hill Rd., passed away on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 at her home. Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Nathan "Mickey" Donnelly; her children: Kevin (Tamara) Donnelly of Nichols; Darryl (Debra) Donnelly of Stevensville, Pa; Janet Schuster (Kerry Groomes) of Sayre, Pa; sister Mabel Manchester of Rome, Pa; brother-in-law: Fred Cornell of Nichols; grandchildren: Anthony and Hannah Schuster; Kristen and Taylor Donnelly; Dalton and Dillon Donnelly; great grandson Landon James Woodburn; several nieces, nephews and their families along with a host of friends also survive. Carolyn was predeceased by her brothers Francis and Robert Bean; sisters Margery Cornell and Bernadine Buskirk.

Carolyn was born on May 29, 1930 in Nichols, a daughter of the late Frank E. and Lillian (Cole) Bean. She was a graduate of the Nichols High School class of 1949. On Nov. 17, 1951 she married Nathan J. Donnelly and together they made Nichols their home and owned and operated the family dairy farm. For many years, Carolyn actively participated with the growth of the area youth by being a 4-H Leader and was instrumental in the Tioga County Dairy Princess program for over 44 years and had received the "Outstanding Women of the Year Award" for all her hard work and dedication to the program. She was a member Nichols chapter of Order of Eastern Stars, the Nichols Presbyterian Church, Farm Bureau, Young Farmers, Chairman and Inspector for the Election Board Committee. Always caring a smile and a hug, she enjoyed fellowship with the "Lounsberry Social Club", enjoyed bowling, sewing and being a friend to many.

Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation and time of sharing memories from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2 at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Order of Eastern Star services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Funeral services and time of remembering the special gift Carolyn was to all of us will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, March 3 at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jon Austin, officiating. Interment will follow in the Nichols Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be directed to all those who came to our assistance; Owego Fire Dept & Emergency Squad, P.O. To the Donnelly family,
Our prayers and thoughts are with you during this time. We both feel and share your loss. We encourage you to know, that Carolyn has gone before us to eternally live with our God in heaven. Carolyn would want us all to believe and be raised up. That we to would join her, in the presence of our heavenly loving creator, and father in heaven. Carolyn has left us with a Godly example to follow: Love the Lord your God, Love one another, Love is patient, Love is kind, Love does not boast, Love is not proud, Love is not rude, Love is not self seeking, Love is not easily angered, Love keeps no record of wrongs, Love does not rejoice in evil but rejoices with the truth, Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always perseveres.
As a neighbor and child reared up by a second mother, Carolyn was all of these examples of love to me. Carolyn and Mickey were the foundation for many of us growing up in their care. All of us that experienced the presence of God through Carolyn and Mickey have been blessed. Mickey, I will always cherish the time you and Carolyn shared with me growing up. I am still blessed to be a part of your family and look forward to the rest of our days together, even during these painful times. All my Love, payers and thoughts are with all of you!

March 1, 2010

Dear Janet,
My Deepest Sympathy goes out to You, Mick, Kevin, Darryl and your entire extended family. The Good Lord needed an extra special angel and he called on your Mom. "Mom" as all us kids called her when we were small lads, because she was the perfect mom and treated us all so well. Forty-seven years ago I met her and have nothing but beautiful and loving memories of her. As I read through the other remembrances it's clear she touched so many lives in so many ways and all with the touch of an angel. I have so many amazing memories of her, but the one single memory that stands out is she always greeted people with a smile and a hug, and I always remember being greeted with a plate of home-made cookies each time I visited home. She's the most beautiful and wonderful person I've ever met in my life.
"Mom" lives on in the hearts and minds of all those hundreds of thousands of people whose lives she touched. She's in a beautiful place now, healthy, and strong, spreading her love. We are all very lucky because her love will live on through you. You are so much like her, a beautiful, loving individual who always puts others first.
I know how very close you were to her, and how your heart is aching. Your family, especially your mother, has been so good to me in my life and my heart weeps greatly for your/our loss. If there's anything in the world I can do, don't hesitate for a second, just call and I'll be there.
"Give Mom an extra hug, from me". I love you both. ~ Steve

Dear Janet...
My Deepest Sympathy to you and Mick, Kevin, Darrell, Anthony, Hannah, Dillon, Dalton and the entire Donnelly Family. My heart weeps over the the loss of Carolyn or "Mom" as all us kids used to call her when we were young lads. She was easily the greatest and most loving person I ever met in my life. As one reads through all the rememberances, it is clear she was special to a lot of people. She touched people in a very loving way. I remember always being greeted with a plate of home-made cookies everytime I visited the Donnelly home. She was that kind of special lady. The Good Lord needed a very special Angel; so he called on the very best, Carolyn Donnelly. If there's anything you need, don't hesitate for a second to ask. ~Steve

Dear Mickey & Family---
I am so sorry to hear of your loss and the tragedy surrounding it...God knows and understands the 'why', even when we do not. I too remember Carolyn as my 4H leader, and I can still see her face as I looked up into her's after she helped me set a stitch, and praised me for my work (even a child's rough beginning...). Such a beautiful heart shone out of those eyes, and such a lovely smile, always. You will miss her so, but God will hold you close if you will let Him...please do! Carolyn herself is one of the first people I saw Jesus in...she would not want you to let this tradegy come between you and the only One who is Forever. The love and prayers of your friends and family are with you, and Carolyn lives on...I have always seen her in Janet's face...and then in Hannah's...and I know should I meet the rest of you I would find glimpses of her as I looked at you as well. YOU were all that she loved most in this world. She loves you still.

My own Mom and Dad thought the world of you two. Thank you for the hugs whenever I see you. I'll always miss them.

February 28, 2010

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Mick, Kevin, Tammy, Kristen, Taylor and Family,

It was our honor and priviledge to be your neighbors for seven years on the hill. Carolyn was simply a kind soul, and we cherish the fence chats, picnics and just simple time together. From her window in the kitchen, she knew what happened in our little corner of God's world.

We are grateful for the time we spent with you all, and hold you close to our hearts as we lift you up in prayer. May you find comfort in the love that carries on, for it surely does.

Our hearts are heavy after hearing about the tragic fire that took the life and home of Mrs. Donnelly....We will always cherish the memories of Falon, William, Anthony and Hannah playing in your yard and in the Barn...Carolyn and Mickey served as Grandparents to every child that ever lived on that hill. Our Entire Family will pray for all of you.
