Carolyn Hook Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 27, 2023.
Carolyn Hook, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2023, in Austin, Texas. She was 69 years old.

Born Julia Carolyn Nichol on May 11, 1954, in Conroe, Texas. She was a woman of immense love and dedication, especially to her family. Carolyn's home was always open to family and friends, where she would lovingly prepare meals and create a warm and welcoming environment. She was affectionately called "Mama Hook" by her son Christopher's friends, who were always welcomed with open arms and delicious food.

In addition to being a devoted mother to her only son Christopher, Carolyn found great joy in becoming a grandmother and bonus mom to her daughter-in-law, Clarisa. Her grandchildren, Renee and Layla, held a special place in her heart. Carolyn inspired their passion for books by reading to them, fostering a love of reading that will endure for generations to come.

Carolyn's love extended beyond her immediate family. She had a network of neighborhood girlfriends that she always made time for. Carolyn also had what her son referred to as their second family "the Houston crew". She cherished her husband, Bobby, for 38 years, creating a strong and loving partnership. Carolyn also maintained a close bond with her brother, Tommy, and his wife, Kim, and adored her nephew, Charlie.

Music and animals were sources of solace and joy for Carolyn throughout her life. She found comfort and inspiration in the melodies that filled her home thanks to her music mentor Mark Tipton who preceded her in death. Her love for music and animals brought her immense happiness. To know Carolyn, was to have a glass of white wine with her and enjoy her boisterous laugh.

Carolyn's kindness, love, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her impact on the lives of her family and friends will continue to be felt, and her memory will be cherished forever.

In accordance with Carolyn's wishes, no memorial service is planned. Instead, the family will hold a private ceremony to celebrate the remarkable life she lived.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Carolyn's favorite charity, your local food bank. Carolyn had a deep appreciation for the importance of helping others, and supporting the community through donations to the food bank would be a meaningful way to honor her memory.

Carolyn Hook will forever be remembered for her unwavering love, her nurturing spirit, and her dedication to her family and friends. Her legacy will live on through the love she shared and the memories she created.

She was a fantastic friend and confidante. The Thanksgiving and Christmas cookouts were sources of great comradeship for all involved. Great scrabble game rivalry between her & T (Mark Tipton- diseased).
Hang in there Bobby.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Carolyn always spoke so well about both of you. She was great to work with and I hope she had some good years with you and her friends in retirement before her illness.

Rest in peace dear friend. I will miss you terribly. You struggled mightily during this past year and it's comforting to know that you are no longer in pain. I will forever miss our wine conversations at your kitchen counter and on your back porch, working on the crossword puzzles and the Lone Star cap riddles at the lake and great conversations about our sons and their families. It was a great thirty years of fun and frivolity. When you're ready for company Bobby, we're here for you. Hugs, Michelle and Teddy

RIP friend. Positive thoughts, prayers and hugs to family and friends. I attended our local 'Feast of Caring' which helps fund our local food bank and I made a donation in Caroyn's name.

Bobby, I know there are no words to ease your pain...Carolyn was a hoot and one of my favorite people to see. I'll never forget her answer when we talked about long term retirement planning "All we need is margaritas and mexican food and we will be just fine in retirement!" I wish retirement had lasted longer for her but I'm so grateful she is no longer in pain. I'll toast her and her amazing life over my next margarita.

Please reach out Bobby, we are here when you are ready...xoxo

I had the honor of walking a bit of Carolyn´s journey with she and Bobby during these past eleven months. As always she was gracious, caring and practical. It did my heart good to know my best friend since the 9th grade (Bobby) had been so fortunate in the "Life Partner Lotto"!

Rest peacefully Carolyn - you definitely " fought the good fight!"

I´d walk into our office and always saw those bright blue eyes and that smile. Bobby I know you´d always endure or Christmas party and took us all in stride. Carolyn was such a kind person and I was blessed to call her my friend.
