Carolyn Sue Warner (ne Hoel), 82, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, in
Phoenix, Arizona. Born on October 18, 1942, in Hot Springs, Missouri, Carolyn lived a life marked by deep faith, enduring love, and unwavering dedication to her family, community, and passions.
After graduating from Laramie High School in Wyoming, Carolyn pursued her love of learning at the University of Wyoming. There she studied Education and later earned her Master's degree in Chemistry. During her college years, she interned as both a nurse and a teacher's assistant and was an active member of Tri Delta Gamma sorority.
Carolyn began her professional journey as an educator, teaching general studies in elementary school before moving on to teach chemistry at the middle and high school levels. Her teaching career spanned over two decades. Though she loved the subject of chemistry deeply, she eventually transitioned out of the classroom when the challenges of teaching teenagers began to take their toll.
Her next chapter led her to Craig, Colorado, where she joined the chemistry lab at the local coal plant, analyzing water samples. When the plant closed, Carolyn relocated to Arizona and continued her work as a chemist in the water division at APS/Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. Her scientific acumen and dedication were evident throughout her career.
Upon retirement, Carolyn partnered with her beloved husband Rusty Warner in his ministry through Smile God Loves You Media. Together they traveled across the country recording religious and Alcoholics Anonymous speakers and events. Carolyn also sold AA medallions and Indian turquoise jewelry during these travels-endeavors that combined her entrepreneurial spirit with her passion for service.
Carolyn's life was rich not only in professional accomplishments but also in personal joy and meaningful connections. She had a beautiful singing voice and a flair for performance. She starred as Lady Thiang in "The King and I," later stepping into the lead role of Anna when needed-a testament to her talent and grace under pressure. She also performed in "Oklahoma," singing and dancing with infectious enthusiasm.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Carolyn enjoyed hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing-interests she inherited from her father. Her adventurous spirit was matched by her deep commitment to service. She was an active greeter at her church and dedicated 38 years to sobriety through Alcoholics Anonymous. As a sponsor to many women within AA, Carolyn offered guidance, compassion, and unwavering support to those navigating recovery.
Carolyn's presence radiated warmth and love. Described by those who knew her as loving, kind, compassionate, sincere, devoted, loyal-and above all else-full of love, she left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her smile was infectious; her eyes reflected genuine care; and her consistent presence brought comfort to many. Her legacy is one of faith, service, friendship, and unconditional love.
She is survived by her devoted husband Rusty Warner; daughter Paula Rigau and husband John; son Russell Warner; sister Marguerite Routson and husband Bob; nephew Jay Routson and wife Courtney; niece Amy Vogel and husband Conrad; all including beloved10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 5 great nephews one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents Stella and Paul Hoel and by Rusty's daughter Tracy.
Carolyn Sue Warner lived a life rooted in love-love for God, for family, for friends, for nature, for music-and most importantly for people. Her memory will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. A Burial was held on July 29, 2025 at the National Memorial Cemetery, Section 79, Site 471.
