Leah M. Atkinson, 90, of Westmoreland, KS and formerly of Kansas City, KS, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Westy Community Care Home.
Leah was born January 16, 1927 in Hill City, KS, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Messer) Trowbridge. She attended schools in Coyville, KS and graduated from Coyville High School. On June 22, 1944, she was united in marriage to Wilbur L. “Bud” Atkinson in Jetmore, KS. Soon after, they moved to the Kansas City area for employment and started to raise their family.
Leah began working at the Turner School District, where she worked from 1957 thru 1961. She then began working at Electro-Dynamics of Mission, KS as a supervisor from 1961 until her retirement in 1992.
She loved to take care of her family. She was a fantastic cook, loved to babysit her grandbabies and spend as much time with her family as possible. One of her favorite things was to spend the weekends with her family, starting each Memorial Day, at Council Grove Lake. She also enjoyed playing cards and putting puzzles together.
Her survivors include: a son, Terry Atkinson (Janell) of Galena, MO; two daughters: Peggy Butterfield and, Penny Taylor (Gary) all of Kansas City, KS; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bud Atkinson in 2009; an infant son Donald; two sisters: Mavis and Marie; and two brothers: Marvin and Bill.

Leahs body has passed but her spirit
lives on. I will always remember the twinkle in her eyes, her smile and her wit. I started out her caretaker but ended up her buddy. I looked forward to seeing her every day. My life was enriched by knowing Leah. You are in my heart for ever and if she stays in the hearts of the ones who love her she will never pass away. I have so many memories that make me smile and laugh and thats why i loved you so much. Goodbye Dear Friend.
