Carrie ZENTI Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 22, 2016.
Carrie A. Zenti, 46, of Gwinn, died peacefully Thursday evening, September 22, 2016, at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee. Carrie was born on October 28, 1969 in Escanaba to Peter and Elizabeth (Olson) Zenti and was a Gwinn High School graduate. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design from Michigan State University and a K-12 Art Teaching Certification from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Carrie was employed for 12 years in visual arts at an art gallery with a kind and talented, fun loving group of artists at the Boulder Arts and Crafts Cooperative. She had also worked for five wonderful years in Bermuda as an art teacher and education coordinator at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art. Carrie was beloved by her young students and dynamic coworkers for her love of life, the arts and the kindness she shared with all. An artist and photographer, Carrie enjoyed skiing, hiking up Mt. Sanitas in Boulder, mountain biking, yoga, bird watching, following her faith and moral compass, and being a true friend to so many wonderful people who crossed her path throughout the years. Carrie had the good fortune to travel to Europe, Hawaii, South America, Easter Island, Bermuda as well as the West and Southwest. Ultimately though, her home was always the town and woods of Gwinn where she spent the last 7 years bravely battling metastatic breast cancer surrounded by family and friends. Survivors include her mother, Elizabeth Zenti of Gwinn; a sister, Elizabeth (Lyndon) Milliner of Austin, TX and their children, Matthew, Lauren and Michael Milliner; an uncle, William (Judy) Olson of Gwinn; aunt, Barbara (Ernest) Irwin of Flushing, MI; cousins, Tomoko Inoue, John Irwin, Christine Holland, Eric Irwin, Chris Emmendorfer, Peter Zenti, Rico Zenti, Kathy Fudjack, Marilyn Seigel and Julie Silc. Carrie was preceded in death by her father, Peter Zenti; maternal grandparents, Walter and Marion Olson; paternal grandparents, Ognibene and Cecilia Zenti; and many aunts and uncles. The Zenti family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, September 27th from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Canale Gwinn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 6 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Allen Mott officiating. A dessert social will take place immediately after the Mass in the parish hall. Burial will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Escorts will be Bill Olson, Tomoko Inoue, Connie Sather, Geri Lynn Eden, John Irwin, and Chris Emmendorfer. The family would like to thank Dr. Catherine Kroll, Dr. Sheetal Acharya, UP Health Systems Neurology, her Mayo Clinic Health Team of Dr. Michael Link, Dr. Nadia Laack, Dr. Judith Kaur, Dr. Timothy Moynihan, Dr. Joon Uhm and the extremely caring and capable staff at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee. For those wishing to honor Carrie, memorials may be made to the Gwinn Clubhouse or the Forsyth Township Library at PO Box 1360, Gwinn, MI 49841. The Canale Gwinn Funeral Home is assisting the Zenti family where memories may be shared at canalefuneral.com.

It was a joy working with you Zenti (We always affectionately used her last name), at the Foundry so many years ago. You were the nicest sweetest person there, and we all still and will continue to love you dearly. Thank you for the great life you lived, and for touching all who were fortunate enough to know you. -Cy

It broke my heart to hear of Carrie's passing. I first met her at the age of 14 volunteering at Masterworks during her Saturday morning art classes (and for 5 years thereafter) I admired the way she spoke to her students and everyone she came into contact with. So calm and collected; never letting anyone know of what she might have been going through. A true inspiration to me. Her smile and kindness were contagious and a beautiful memory I'll hold onto forever.

Tim and I were so very sorry to hear this news. Carrie was truly one the kindest, most gentle soul's I've ever met. Her smile could light up a room, she was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. Please know her family is in our thoughts during this difficult time. It doesn't seem fair. Carrie is at peace now though and no longer suffering. We are all better to have known her and she will forever be missed.

She helped us get our feet on the ground when we moved to Boulder over 13 years ago. Love her and miss her dearly. xoxoxo

Love,
Michelle, Tim and Dominic Trudgeon

I met Carrie at The Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art when she was trying to hire an assistant art teacher for the new Art Summer Camp that she was organizing for the Museum. I'd gone to the Masterworks office to pay to attend a Printmaking Workshop being held there and I spoke to her about how unrealistic wanting an assistant art teacher for the whole summer was. We chatted and she asked me what I'd recommend. I said that it would be easier to get somebody to do half of the summer and look for another teacher to do the other half. She looked at me and smiled ---- lingered in that smile and asked: "Now, I wonder who I can get to do the first half?" I worked with Carrie during the first half of that Summer Programme and other programmes. She was a joy to work with and we became equal partners as I assisted her from time to time. Carrie was wise beyond her years with a work ethic that was admirable for one so young. Actually I had no idea how old she was until today (Oct 19/16 when I learned of her passing). So, she's been missed (here in Bermuda) for a while but now this missing is the final curtain. I am so glad that we touched each others' lives when we did. At least her fight is over and Carrie can rest in sweet peace... May God's presence undergird the family at this time of personal loss.

I'm so sorry that Carrie's death has only now been drawn to my attention. I am weeping tears of such sorrow. This earth has never known a person of such warmth, grace, dignity, compassion, radiance, care, passion and humanity. I was so lucky to work with her and frankly the bar that she raised is without parallel. The void she leaves (and it is large) will be filled with love by all whose life was touched by this extraordinary person. Carrie you will be missed every day of my life....love you kid....

Carrie was one of the few souls, on this earth, whom no one could never say anything negative about her. She was kind, compassionate and always had a smile. She fought her battle long and hard. I know she was a devout servant to our Lord so, it goes without mention, we all should know where she is now. She now is with the Lord. She can dance, she can smile and she no longer feels pain. My condolences to her mother and Liz. Carrie now is at peace and with her father. God Bless.
