Carroll Melton Obituary
He was born December 31, 1923 in Buncombe County, NC to the late John Edwin Melton and Paralie McGuinn Melton. Mr. Melton was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp where he served during WWII in the China-Burma Theatre. He retired from Nationwide Insurance Co. after 30 years of service. He was a dedicated Mason for over 69 years and a member of the Shrine Club for over 50 years. He was also a long time member of the Scottish Rite 33rd degree and of York Rite where he was the Past Grand High Priest for the state of NC. He was also a Past Master of Joppa Lodge in Old Fort, NC.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Melton is also preceded in death by his wife, Harriette Anne Fox Melton and four brothers, Arthur, Maurice, Robert Bruce and James Norman Melton.
Surviving Mr. Melton are one son, Carroll Roy Melton, Jr. and wife, Roxanne of Boca Raton, FL; one daughter, Susan Trent and husband, Michael of Yadkinville, NC; one grandson, Jason Ian Trent and fiancé, Brenda Mathis of Yadkinville, NC; and one great-grandson, Jason Ian Trent II.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 in McCall Memorial Chapel at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion, NC. Burial will follow at Golden Valley Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: the Masonic Home for Children C/O Joppa Lodge, 54 S. Catawba Ave. Old Fort, NC 28762 or Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital C/O Mount Mitchell Shrine Club, PO Box 303 Marion, NC 28752.

Carroll: It has been a year since you left us. The meal we shared at J&S in Asheville shortly before you passed is a special memory I will always cherish. I will see you again, my friend. The fact that you and my dearly departed Dad were both in the Army Air Corp in WWII and only two years apart in age made our friendship that much more special. When I saw you I saw a lot of my Dad > strength and integrity. Aurevoir.

I knew Carroll from 1970 until 2015. We worked together at Nationwide Insurance in Claims and stayed in touch after that through the years. I ate lunch with Carroll just this past February in Asheville. That will always be a special memory. You were a good man, Carroll, and you knew the insurance claims business like the back of your hand. Take care, my friend.

Meeting Carroll in 2008 was my introduction to the history of Mt. Hermon Lodge 118. I joined in 2010, and he was a part of the reason why. Thanks Carroll. For the family, please accept my wishes for comfort and strength at this difficult time.

Worshipful Brother Carroll was a fine man and a fine Mason. He gave of his time, talent and treasure to Masonry and the community around him. He was faithful and right-hearted in all he did. He will be sorely missed.
