Obituary for Casey James Dillon

If you knew him, you loved him. And if you loved him, you probably laughed until your sides hurt. Casey James Dillon lived a life larger than most and brighter than many, and although we wish we had more time with him, we know he packed an incredible amount of living into his years.

Casey grew up in Hamden and Wallingford, CT, before trading New England winters for Florida sunshine. Down south, he built Green With Envy, a lawn care business that became wildly successful thanks to his hard work, big personality, and maybe just a touch of that Dillon charm. Casey wasn't afraid of hard work-but he was also a professional at enjoying life.

If you couldn't find him, he was probably out on his boat in Tampa Bay, swapping stories and soaking in the salt air, or at home with his beloved Neapolitan Mastiffs Zeus, Freddy, Kreuger, (not kidding) and Georgia who thought they owned the couch, bed, pool and house (and maybe did). He loved reminiscing about his childhood adventures on Mascoma Lake in New Hampshire, where his knack for storytelling first began-and if you let him, he could keep you laughing for days with those tales.

Casey was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Valerie Dillon, who surely welcomed him with open arms (and maybe a joke or two of their own). He leaves behind his sister Kelly Dillon Shaffer of Connecticut, his brother Douglas Dillon of Connecticut, and his brother Jeff Dillon (Katie) of Florida. He also leaves his long-time partner and love, Lindsey Gregory, who was the heart of his world. Several nieces, nephews, and a whole crew of friends from all over the East Coast will miss him dearly, though they'll carry his laughter and stories with them always.

Funeral arrangements are private at the discretion of the family. In Casey's honor, raise a glass, tell a great story, and make someone laugh-that's how he would want to be remembered.

Casey and I met in Connecticut in 1986. We started working together and quickly became friends. We became best friends and were inseparable until I moved back to Texas and shortly after that he moved to Florida. He has always been my ride or die. He was a crazy and wild guy but was also a true friend. I didn´t know many of his friends in Florida but I know if you knew him you know what I´m talking about. He was my brother, my friend, my ride or die. My heart has a big void in it now. No one will ever replace who is was to me. I love you my brother. Rest in peace my friend.

They say God lets you choose your friends but He picks your neighbors. I was so blessed that Casey was my next door neighbor for over twenty years and we became very close friends. A better friend, one could never find. I could write a book of the joys and the sorrows we shared, a lifetime really. But through it all there was laughter, that unmistakable voice and booming laugh. Quick witted which made us laugh so hard, we had tears. We often met at the fence in our backyards were we shared confidences and spoke about everything from what we were going to plant in our vegetable gardens, recipes, politics, and life struggles. When my daughter Karissa passed, they loved each other, he checked on me daily, gave the best comforting hugs, bear hugs and made me feel I could get through one more day. He wasn´t afraid of saying I love you, and we said it often when parting. He loved his pups. The photo below was the first day Freddie arrived. How he loved Brutus, Morgan, Zeus and his latest pups, Georgia, Freddie and Krueger.

My last memory was just two weeks ago. We had met by chance on the sidewalk in front of my house. While we we were chatting away, it started to rain. Both declaring that we were so sweet, we were going to melt. In true Casey fashion, we both started lowering our bodies and waving our arms shouting in perfect unison "I´m melting". We laughed so hard we were crying and we didn´t give a thought to how silly we looked out in front of anyone passing by, witnessing our usual antics. Our last texts we ended in a heart from me to him and a heart blowing a kiss to me from him. I will save and cherish this forever.

Heaven gained the sweetest Angel and I believe Karissa met him with Brutus, Morgan and Zeus in tow, embracing him in a loving hug. I will see you again, my dear, sweet friend, Casey and we will laugh once more.

May God bless all of his friends and his special family at this time of deep sorrow. Your forever friend, Janine
