Catherine Bernard, 92 of Duluth, died on Jan. 10, 2005. She was born in Tyler, N.D. on Dec. 23, 1912, to Thomas and Mary (Tripp) Egan. Catherine married Henry J. Bernard on June 18, 1936 in Wahpeton, N.D. Catherine retired in 1976 from St. Mary's Hospital as a registered nurse. Catherine graduated from St. John's High School in Wahpeton N.D. and graduated in 1935 from the St. Francis School of Nursing in Breckenridge Minn. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the St. Margaret's Guild. Catherine was a member of the Norton Park Garden Club, the St. Mary's Retired Nurses Association, the PTA and served as a nurse in the Minnesota National Guard. Catherine was very active in her church. She was very dedicated to her husband, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, hand work and sewing. She will be sadly missed by her family. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Henry in 2002; seven brothers; and two sisters. Catherine is survived by sons, Francis (Gale) Bernard of Rice Lake, Wis., and Paul (Gloria) Bernard of Duluth; a daughter, Veronica Sterling of Duluth; sister, Marion McCafferty, Butte, Mont.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Chris Jensen Cedar Lane for their care and kindness. VISITATION:4-7 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 12, with a 6 p.m. Prayer Service in the Foley Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements by Hegstrom Family Funerals, Foley & Lenroot Chapels. 5405 Ramsey St.
