Catherine Hansbrough Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 11, 2012.
"Her children arise and call her blessed." Proverbs 31:28. Catherine Moore Walker Hansbrough went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012. A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, she was residing in North Augusta, S.C., at the time of her death. A celebration of her life will be held at The Chapel on the Campus Saturday, Jan. 14, her 85th birthday. Visiting will be from 9 a.m. until the service begins at 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Donald Tabb will be officiating the service. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge. Her grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. Thomas Hansbrough; her parents, Capitola Touchstone Moore and Arthur Roy Moore; and a brother, George Donald Moore. She is survived by her sons, Dr. David Wyman Walker and his wife, Virginia Lewis Walker, Dr. Mark Moore Walker and his wife, Karen Kennedy Walker, Dr. Stephen Baucum Walker and his wife, Candace Hayes Walker; her daughter, Ann Mary Walker O'Shea and her husband, Dr. Kevin Joseph O'Shea; her grandchildren, Leigh Catherine Walker Greene and her husband, Jason, Melissa Walker Fitzgerald and her husband, Bryan, Elizabeth Walker Pou, Dr. Paul Wyman Walker and his wife, Jill, Matthew Lewis Walker, Catherine Walker Gutter and her husband, Emerich, Andrew Baucum Walker, Christine Cecile Walker, Rebecca Ann O'Shea, and Brennan Walker O'Shea; her great-grandchildren, Catelyn, Ginny, Tommy and Emily Claire Greene, Charlie and Carter Fitzgerald, Walker and Grant Pou, Bradley O'Shea, and John David Walker; her brother, Danny Roy Moore; her sister, Celia Moore Sawyer; and former husband and father of her children, Dr. Wyman Walker. Mrs. Hansbrough was born in Haynesville on Jan. 14, 1927, and graduated with a bachelor of arts in journalism and English from LSU, where she also received her master's degree in education. Her careers included modeling, working as a secretary and being the successful business owner of two Baton Rouge gift shops, The Store and Cacky's Corner. Although she enjoyed these endeavors, her true joy was found in her family and in serving the Lord in teaching God's word. She was a charter member of The Chapel on the Campus and former member of Broadmoor Methodist Church and St. John's United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge. Mrs. Hansbrough, lovingly known as Cacky, was devoted to God and her family and held firmly to the words of Deuteronomy 6:5, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." Cacky lovingly served her family, sharing her wisdom and love for Christ. She joyfully devoted her life to the Lord through her work as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, Sunday school teacher, Bible study leader, Christian speaker and friend to so many in the Baton Rouge community who were touched by her life, blessed by her wisdom and prayed over by her precious hands. Many people were led to the Lord Jesus Christ because of her passion in sharing the Gospel. Many special thanks to the devoted sitters who cared for her in recent years, especially Dorothy Henley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Services of Baton Rouge, The Chapel on the Campus or to the charity of your choice .

Absolutely the loveliest memories I have of Baton Rouge are ones that Cathehrine was a part of. She was such a handmaiden of the Lord, and I count it wonderful that she was so obedient and shared her life with me and so many others.

David, Mark, Stephen, and Ann: What a great legacy, what a wonderful heritage you have in the memory of your mom. I am grateful the Lord allowed me to be ministered to by your family at such a pivotal time in my life. The generosity and hospitality you extended to me has been the example the Lord used to inspire that same ministry in our home over the years. A godly life carries an eternal impact, and I trust that same fear of the Lord will be carried on in each of us. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the celebration. I loved being with you all. I was so sorry to hear of Mrs. Walker's passing. She was such a sweet lady. You have my deepest sympathy on your loss. Please extend my sympathy to your entire family.
As you know I had become fairly well-acquainted with the family years ago and I also worked for Mrs. Walker. Stephen, Mark and Ann Mary I hope that you will keep your faith strong and not be despaired. I can sympathize with what you are going through. I just lost my mother this past November. Love, Billie Whitley

To Catherine's family: I am a cousin in Mississippi (A.W.'s daughter). I will always remember Catherine's glorious smile and laugh. She was a true beauty inside and out. I didn't get to see her often but she was always so sweet to me. Blessings to you all. Love, Ava Lynn Moore Welborn
