Catherine passed away peacefully at UCSF Medical Center with her family by her side, after a long battle with PSC illness. She was 68 years old.

Jan was born (to Robert and Phyllis Brown) in Pomona, CA and moved to Salinas in 1963 with her family, where they bought a new family home. She attended North Salinas High, where she played clarinet in the marching band, was a Thespian and swimmer. After Hartnell, she went into banking with her first job at Independent Savings and Loan. She retired in 2003 when she left Bank of Salinas.

Jan loved to travel, but was also a homebody who liked making home improvements and decorating. During a trip with her husband to Manhattan in 2003, they bought a motorhome and drove it to Salinas. After that, they often took the grandkids and dog on trips. Jan especially liked to camp at places along the Pacific Coast. Her ashes will be scattered along that coast.

As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend she was very loving and generous, always opening her home for family gatherings. Her great sense of humor, laughter, kindness and jovial spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Jan is survived by her husband of 49 years, Joe; their daughter, Lisa; her mother, Phyllis; brother, Tim; sisters, Pat and Laura and three grandchildren; Tabitha, Chris, Jr. and Nathan and many nieces and nephews. She leaves the care of her loving SPCA rescue dog Toby, to her husband.

A memorial is scheduled for Saturday, August 12, 2017. This Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the home of Pat Williams, 17 Coronado St. in Salinas at 1PM.
