Catherine Luedke Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2025.
Mrs. Catherine Clair Grimmer Luedke, 88, of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Born on February 24, 1937, in Madison, Wisconsin, Catherine was the daughter of the late William F. Grimmer and Marguerite Nielson Grimmer. From her earliest days in Wisconsin to her later years in South Carolina, she lived a life marked by warmth, grace, and quiet strength.

Catherine is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Ted William Luedke; her daughter, Debbie White of Clover, SC; her sons, Randy Phelps and Tracy Phelps (Jenny), both of Cedarburg, WI; and her beloved granddaughters, Marinah and Katelyn. She was preceded in death by her baby brother William and her sister Elizabeth "Libby" Rosandick.

A woman of many passions and talents, Catherine had a deep love for animals that shaped much of her life. Over the years she shared her home with a joyful menagerie - dogs and cats who were part of the family; a herd of fainting goats that brought laughter and delight; a cherished llama named Spencer; and Cotton, her treasured horse. Her bond with animals was profound and enduring.

Catherine and Ted shared a special connection through their mutual love for horses. Together with their longtime friends Gary and Suzy Ringel of Cedarburg, WI, they spent countless hours raising and riding horses - a pursuit that brought them not only joy but also deep friendship and community.

Her creativity found expression through knitting and sewing - crafts she pursued with patience and precision. Whether making gifts for loved ones or sharing her creations at local craft stores and online, Catherine poured care into every stitch. Her work reflected not only skill but also the quiet joy she found in creating something beautiful with her hands.

She delighted in life's simple pleasures: tending to animals on a crisp morning, chatting about the weather (a favorite topic), or enjoying an occasional trip to try her luck at the slot machines - moments that brought sparkle to everyday life.

Catherine's gentle spirit touched all who knew her. Her generous heart made others feel welcome and cared for. Her joyful presence brightened even ordinary days. Though she has passed from this world, the legacy she leaves behind - one of kindness, creativity, humor, and love - will continue to live on in those whose lives she touched.

A private service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local animal rescue or a charity of one's choice.

May Catherine's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
