Catherine Ann "Cathy" Mathers

Catherine Ann Mathers, née Ruisinger, affectionately known as Cathy, passed away on July 19, 2024, in Little Elm, Texas, at the age of 73. Born on April 9, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio, Cathy was a beacon of love, intelligence, and wit throughout her life.

Cathy grew up attending St. Andrews primary school before graduating from Upper Arlington High School. She furthered her education at the University of North Texas, which laid the groundwork for her diverse professional life. Cathy dedicated 15 years as a homemaker, nurturing her children during their formative years. She later transitioned into the workforce, holding positions at MCI, Verizon, and Health Equity until her retirement in 2017.

Her personal life was rich with hobbies that included reading, traveling, solving crossword puzzles, and engaging in needlecraft and crochet. Cathy also had a passion and skill for cooking. Amazing meals were had by countless friends and family members lovingly prepared by her hands. Her grandkids have many fond memories of baking cookies and cakes at the holidays with grandma.

She is survived by her loving children, Jacey Mortensen (Mike) and Jamey Mathers (Hannah); her brother, Bill Ruisinger (Elizabeth); and her cherished grandchildren, Kylie, Autumn, Lily, Michael, and Liam. Cathy also leaves behind her nieces, Sarah and Kaleigh Ruisinger, her former husband, Jeff Mathers and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lenore Ruisinger, and her brother, James Ruisinger.

A memorial service for close friends and family will be held at a later date to honor Cathy's remarkable life. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and resilience will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her. We love you mom! Your leaving has left a hole in our hearts!
