Catherine Montemarano Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 18, 2021.

Catherine Montemarano, 79, of Nappanee, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, adored friend to many, passed away peacefully and into God’s arms on January 15, 2021.  Her children were at her side.  Cathy was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 4, 1941 and moved to Nappanee in 2008.  She is predeceased by her mother, Catherine (McGrade) Daluiso, and her aunt, Mary Welch, who helped raise her.   She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Nick Montemarano, her twin children, Nicholas Montemarano (Nicole Michels) and Jennifer Weaver (Tim Weaver), and three grandchildren, Mackenzie Weaver, Madison Weaver, and Dangiso Montemarano.

Cathy was a stalwart for the underdog and those suffering.  She had a unique gift of lifting others up.  Her very humble beginnings drove her to give to and help others.  She was a foster parent to many children in other countries for over forty years.  Over the years she has rescued and cared for countless cats.

A private Catholic Funeral Mass will be held for immediate family only.  The family will announce a celebration of Cathy’s life at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Here Kitty Kitty Rescue.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or website is https://herekittykittyrescue.com/

I knew and worked with Cathy for about 32 years before she left Glendale in the Borough of Queens for Napanee to be near her daugher Jen and her family. It was a good decision for her even though I think she was a little torn about leaving. For several years I had been sending her old photos of Glendale and NYC in general. I am going to miss our banter over those photos. She was a friend I will miss,

Dearest Nick and Family,

I’m really struggling to express what Cathy meant to my family and me. She was truly the perfect example of a friend, mother, wife, neighbor, and grandmother to so many of us.

I first met Cathy when you moved to Blackstone (not sure of the year...was it 2007 or 2008?). Regardless of the exact date, you opened your driveway, garage, and home to ALL kiddos riding the bus - immediately!

You (Nick and Cathy) didn’t care how many different shifts of kids or what time they showed up in your driveway. You provided a home base for all. This home base meant that your exterior lights were always on. Your garage door was always open. You had comfy chairs. On super cold days you opened your house door and urged kids to wait INSIDE THE HOUSE!

Never ever was there a holiday when you didn’t leave the kids amazing treats. Christmas, Easter, Halloween.... you ALWAYS had a huge stash of goodie bags waiting for all the neighborhood kids. You followed us on social media and celebrated every single event.

Last...and most meaningful to me as a parent...you were outside for hours on EVERY. SINGLE. first day of school taking pictures of all the kids. No matter what age. I want you to know that had a huge impression on so many people (kids and grownups) and will never be forgotten.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart Cathy and Nick. Your family is in our prayers. Please know Cathy will be terribly missed and remembered with so much honor and love.
