Jean Kelty Obituary
Lifelong Lynn Resident
Mrs. Jean E. (Dunbar) Kelty, age 79, died on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, after a brief illness at Salem Hospital. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Swampscott, she was the daughter of the late Edith M. (McRobbie) and Charles W. Dunbar, Sr. A lifelong Lynn resident, she graduated from Pickering Jr. High School, Lynn English High School Class of 1952, and from comptometer school in Boston. She studied dance under the direction of the late Gertrude Leary, and performed in many shows in Boston and the North Shore.
Jean was a special education teacher's aide in the Lynn Public Schools for 30 years, working at many schools throughout the city. She retired from Breed Junior High School in September 2003. She previously taught kindergarten at the Broadway United Methodist Church, Lynn, and worked for General Electric Company.
Jean lived for her family, and enjoyed nothing more than cooking or knitting for them. She was happiest having her family around, especially in the summer sitting on the porch at Camp Big Chief on Pocasset Lake in Maine. Besides spending time with her family, Jean was very involved with her community. She choreographed many shows for the Sisson School PTA, P.A.L.S., Broadway United Methodist Church, and Maple Street Church.
She leaves a son David D. Kelty, Jr. and his wife Joyce of Grafton, NH, two daughters Kathleen A. McNulty and her husband Brian of Lynn, and Patricia E. Kelty of Lynn, first grade teacher at the Sewall-Anderson School, and two grandchildren Daniel W. Kelty of Dover, NH, and Colleen A. Kelty of Grafton, NH. She was predeceased by her brother Charles W. Dunbar, Jr. She also leaves many cousins and dear friends. She will be greatly missed by her beloved mini poodle Molly Belle.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 AM in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours are Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Donations in Jean's memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
