Catherine H. Yates, 64, of Normal died at 6:17 p.m. Friday (May 9, 2008) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, Illinois.Born June 28, 1943, at Jackson, Miss., she was the first daughter of Dr. C. Frank and Catherine Howell Yates.She was raised in Memphis, Tenn., where she attended Hutchison School for Girls. She graduated from Mississippi State College for Women and attended Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis). She finished coursework for a master's degree in anthropology, specializing in archaeology of Eastern United States, at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.She worked at the University of Texas as an archaeologist until 1978, then continued professional work in Oklahoma at Environmental Assessments Inc.; the Oklahoma Archaeological Survey, and the U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management.Health concerns forced her to retire from this much-loved position in 1987, and she followed her husband to Normal. She tutored English as a second language course at the Normal Public Library for many years.She is survived by her husband, Charles L. Rohrbaugh; a brother, Claude (Claud) Frank Yates Jr., and a sister, Lynn Carter Yates Dunlap, both of Memphis; and a sister, Claudia Harrison Yates Freiman, Fischer, Texas.Catherine's husband, Charles Rohrbaugh, was raised in Norman, the son of Dr. Lawrence M. and Doris Rohrbaugh.?Catherine and Charles were together in Norman from 1978 until 1987.Catherine was preceded in death by her parents and by her adopted family, the Everett Wilsons of Clinton, Okla., Everett, Bertha and Terry Wilson and John Sipes.?Tulane Wilson resides at Foss, Oklahoma.No memorial service is scheduled at this time.Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 3000 Kelly Lane, Springfield, IL 62771.Calvert and Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, Illinois?is in charge of arrangements.A light has gone out in the lives of the family and friends of Catherine Yates. I knew Catherine in 1968 when we worked together in the archaeology lab at Chucalissa and later at the University of Arkansas. I will never forget her sweetness, intellect, and charm.
