Cathy Weatherford Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 22, 2015.
Weatherford, Cathy Warner
Odessa, Florida. Cathy Warner Weatherford, age 63, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning November 15, 2015, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home. Cathy died young but her time on earth was anything but ordinary, uneventful, or unfinished. Cathy was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, the oldest of six children. Her parents, Ron and Carolyn Warner, were noted community leaders and instilled in Cathy a heart for service. Accomplished in every way, she served as the Senior Class President and Homecoming Queen at Camelback High School, and starred in "The Indispensables," a locally-produced TV show. Cathy attended Stephen's College in Columbia, Missouri, studying philosophy and religion. Cathy met her future husband, Bill Weatherford, after a football game between the University of Missouri and Southern Methodist University, where Bill was SMU's quarterback. Fruitful and eventful would be one way of describing Cathy's and Bill's life. Over the next 16 years while residing in Dallas and then Tampa Bay, they would have seven boys and two girls. Cathy's faith was contagious; she felt compelled to lovingly share the "good news" with everyone she met. She lived her faith through her efforts to help the less fortunate, and especially in her passion for helping children. She chose to homeschool her own children during their primary years, teaching them not only the basic academic skills, but also how to live a life of faith and service. She always used her abiding faith and inquiring mind in raising her children. She prayed with and for them, always encouraging them to seek wisdom and to reflect God's love. There is no way to calculate the lives Cathy impacted, for the stories of her good deeds are innumerable. Her family is assured that, by God's grace, she fought the good fight, she finished the race and she kept the faith throughout her struggles with cancer. She was especially encouraged and inspired by nieces Rebecca Pepple Jensen, RN, and Makaira Beyer.
Cathy is survived by her husband Bill Weatherford, their children -- Jackie Gustafson (Dave), former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives Will Weatherford (Courtney), Sam Weatherford (Salime), Andrew Weatherford (Morgan), Grace Boerner (Kyle), Joseph Weatherford, John Weatherford, Stephen Weatherford and Peter Weatherford (deceased) -- and 11 grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother, former Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Carolyn Warner, and her siblings, Caron Lieber (Robert), Stephen Warner, Connie Pepple (Rick), Christi Mary Warner Beyer (Paul). A Memorial Service celebrating Cathy Warner Weatherford's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday November 23rd, 2015 at Grace Family Church, 5101 Van Dyke Road, Lutz, FL 33558. Locally, memorials in Cathy's memory may be given to Hospice of the Valley (Hospice of the Valley Fund Development, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014; or https://www.hov.org/donate-now)

Anyone that knew Cathy knows what a special person she was. I worked with Cathy at an ice cream parlor in the Town & Country Shopping Center in Phoenix. She had just finished her freshman year at Camelback High, braces and all. I'm not surprised she raised a great family. She was a cut above, and a fun loving young lady.

I'm fortunate that I was lucky enough to meet her and I hope her family is doing well. God Bless.

I am so very sorry to learn of Cathy's passing. I worked with Cathy in the summer of 1966 at The Barn, an ice cream and deli within the Food Bazaar at the Town & Country Shopping Center in Phoenix.

Even then, Cathy was vivacious and memorable. She wore braces and just had a way with the people that came to the restaurant. It wasn't very challenging work, but Cathy made it fun. She was a freshman at Camelback High then I believe. I was a junior at Central.

It's wonderful to see what she accomplished in her life and how she grew close to Jesus. She's in a better place now and I'll always have fond memories of Cathy.

My condolences to the family.

Speaker Weatherford,
I am sorry to hear the lost of your dear mother. I do know God is in charge and knows why your mother is gone so earlier but one think he will never leave you and your family nor sake you. Hold on him and be firm, courageous and faithful to him and you and your family will see her again. May the Lord keeps you and the entire family in peace. My prayers are for the family.

What an older Sister Cathy was! Cathy was amazing from her own TV Show to Mom of 9 children! Everything she did, she did it 110%. We were all lucky to know her and have her in our lives. Thanks for being you Cathy, your little sister Christi Mary.

Cathy brought me to the Lord when I was 23years old. She was always faithful and available to me when I needed spiritual guidance. Cathy was not only my mother in Christ she was my role model and mentor. Because of Cathy my children had the blessing of a stay-at-home mother, who raised them in and with the word and love of God. I love her with all my heart and without qualification. We were one in the Body of Christ and I can feel her with me even now.

I was blessed to be holding her hand as she passed from this world of many troubles to be with our Lord and Savior. I will miss being able to be with her, talk with her, pray with her on this earthly plane. And yet, my joy is unbridled knowing she is home in the arms of our Lord. Words can not express my gratitude that God blessed me with Cathy, the first born of our family, my sister, my friend and my Mother in Christ.

I found about Cathy's homecoming to be in the loving arms of her savior. She will be greatly missed. We used to work out together at Shapes and hang out together and have a good time, before I moved up to the mountains. She had the voice of an angel and she will be a great addition to the heavenly choir. She will be missed here on earth. I am happy that we were friends.

I have met many 'warriors' in the trenches. None of them were more sincere or impassioned than Cathy. I am jealous of her victory, but know when my victory comes we will get to fellowship beside that sacred river. My prayers for the family. I still love you, Bill!!

Cathy
Although I did not know you long you came into my life with encouragement for our children. Our prayers, laughing, dancing, and replying on our Lord touched by spirit. Your love for family, friends, and Jesus was amazing to me. Thank you for being a friend and mentor when I needed it. You will be truly missed!!! I know you are in the arms of our Father where there is no more tears or pain. Love
