CECIL RAY "PEE-WEE" SLOAN

  GONZALES - Cecil Ray "Pee-Wee" Sloan, 84, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, in Gonzales. He was born July 18, 1925, in Pilgrim, to James Millard Sloan and Bertha Matilda Avant Sloan.
  Pee-Wee graduated from the Smiley School System and joined the U.S. Army. He was an antiaircraft machine gunner and was stationed in Asiatic-Pacific Theatre where he received two bronze stars through battles in Iwo Jima.
  Pee-Wee married Mary Nell Kincaid on May 31, 1947, in Gonzales. He owned and operated Sloan Distributing, a Lone Star Beer Distributorship in Gonzales for nearly 30 years. Pee-Wee owned and raced thoroughbred horses successfully for a number of years. He was a member of the Gonzales Elks Lodge, past member of the Gonzales Volunteer Fire Dept., the Gonzales American Legion and VFW, Hermann Sons Lodge and was the chairman of the "Table of Knowledge" at Lottie's.
  Pee-Wee Sloan was a man of rare attributes, he gave of himself to others without concern for personal or public acclamation, but because he truly was a genuine loving and caring man.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Diane Sloan of Gonzales; sister, Adell McGinty of Gonzales; longtime faithful companion, Lee Reidel of Gonzales; grandchildren, Dana Sloan, Kara Lowe; great-grandchildren, Seth Bryzozowski and Ryland Lowe.
  He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; daughter, Cecile Ann Sloan; four sisters and five brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home in Gonzales with the Rev. Todd Craven officiating. Interment will follow in Woodmen of the World Cemetery.
  Pallbearers: Barry Wiley, Lee Sloan, Jerry Edwards, D.D. Howell, Roger Beene and Vernon Mosley.
  Honorary pallbearers: John "Tooter" Craven, Jr., Lamoine Wallace, Lillian Smith, Jimmy Caddell, Nathan Sloan, Brian Babbitt, Cheryl Sloan, and members of The Table of Knowledge.
  The family will receive friends at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home Monday evening, Jan. 25, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m.
  Memorials may be made to the Gonzales Youth Rodeo Association or the Elk's Children's Foundation.
  Services are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
