Cecilia Hobin

Cecilia Simonich Newcomer Hobin died December 13, 2012 under Hospice of San Joaquin care in her home of eleven years in Stockton, California from esophageal cancer. She was 73 years old.
Born in Tucson, Arizona but raised by schoolteacher parents in Hanford, California, she graduated from the the University of California at Berkeley and taught at several high schools in San Francisco. Following the death in 1979 of her first husband, Skyline College basketball coach Lyle C. Newcomer, Jr., she worked for five years as executive secretary to the chief executive officer of St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco and, then, for five years, as secretary to the board of trustees at (now) California Pacific Medical Center, also in San Francisco. From 1992 to 2000 she lived in Houston, Texas, where she was involved in and supported many activities at Rice University. Throughout her life she loved decorating her home with flowers and for all the holidays and cooking wonderful meals for family and friends, and she constantly looked forward to visiting new places.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Patrick Hobin of Stockton, her daughters Molly Newcomer (Dr. Michael J. Adler) of Portland, Oregon and Tora Newcomer (Shai Kahana) of Alameda, her stepdaughters Katie Porter (James D. Porter) of Mill Valley and Emily Janowsky (Stephen T. Janowsky) of Corte Madera, her grandchildren Jacob and Sophie Adler, Nick and Sam Janowsky, Isabel and Grace Porter and Tamar Kahana, her brother John E. Simonich (Patricia) of San Clemente, California and her sister Katherine Gregory (Gary) of Benson, Arizona.
Prior to her death, she expressed over and over her gratitude to and for Hospice of San Joaquin R.N. Louise and her Visiting Angel caregivers, Nubia, Ileana (Jackie), Christine and Sarah.
She is being cremated and her remains will be scattered where she wished. Her immediate family will celebrate her life in private, as she wanted no services.
