Chad Stephenson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 30 to Oct. 1, 2011.
Chad Eric Stephenson Chad Eric Stephenson, age 38, a loving son, brother and devoted Dad, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011. He was born to Brenda Kay Stephenson and the late Richard Lee Stephenson on April 26, 1973. Chad graduated from John S. Battle High School in 1991. His passing has left a void that can never be filled, but he has now joined his dad, whom he missed so much. In addition to his mother, Chad is survived by his son, and daughter, Michael and Kaylynn; his beloved brother, Michael and wife, Jennifer; niece, Rachael; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Chad also leaves behind special friends, Joe Pruitt, Jayson Owens, Rocky Graybeal, Brad Morrell, Jeff Henkul, Jeff Cross, George Millard, and Curtis Morrell. Music was a huge part of Chad's life beginning in elementary school. He was associated with Morrell Music and taught guitar there for more than 20 years. He enjoyed playing in various bands with brother and friends. Chad's favorite thing in the world and his greatest joy in life was spending time with Michael and Kaylynn. They enjoyed their family time by playing games, watching TV and movies together, sitting on their deck to talk and catch lightning bugs, dancing to the radio, playing video games, sharing lots of laughs and hugs, and building their special holiday traditions together. Chad will be sadly missed. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at 8 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Davidson officiating. Committal services will be on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 to 7:45 p.m. prior to the service. Online condolences may be registered at www.Weaverfuneralhome.net Arrangements have been made with Weaver Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Mrs, Stephenson and Eric
I am so sorry for your loss. I went to High Point with Chad and graduated from high school sitting right beside of him. He was such a good friend to me growing up and I will miss him. He taught my daughter to play the guitar and was always as patient as he was kind. I will keep you both in my prayers.

Chad's life should serve as an inspiration to us all. Although his time with us was brief, his impact in our lives was great. The lives he touched and inspired musically will live on for many generations to come. Who among us cannot say that they were acquainted with, taught by or inspired by Chad in some way. His life is a true example of someone dedicated to "Pay It Forward". I was one such person touched by his life. He will be missed.

Mrs. Stephenson, I just now found out about Chad. Had I known I would have been among the many who came to pay my respects to you and your family. Chad was my first guitar teacher. I had played for several years when I began my lessons, but learned very quickly from Chad that I still had alot to learn. Chad always greeted me with a big smile, and I admired his devotion to both his music and his students. He suggested one of his students attend a small "slow jam" that I attended and she became a good friend to us 4 regulars. In fact the 5 of us even started our first little band together. I saw Chad occassionally at Morrells and in "music circles" thru the years and he continued to greet me with that wonderful big smile! He will be greatly missed, but his personal and music lagecy to his students, family, and friends will not be forgotten. I will be keeping you and your family in my prayers.

It is never easy when we loose a friend or loved one unexpectedly, and even harder to understand when it is someone so young. I have a lot of found memories of Chad, he was a great friend from the time we began elementary school together. The thing I remember most is his smile, always huge, happy, and infectious! My prayers are with each friend and family member and my heart goes out to each of you! God bless!

Sometimes in life you meet people who will impact your life for the better. Chad Stephenson was one of those guys to me. One of the ways that Chad impacted me was through his gift of expressing himself. Music just happened to be one of the avenues in which he did so. Whenever Chad would choose to express himself, he would do so in honesty. He opened himself up and left nothing hidden when he chose to do so. I think the main reason I enjoyed not just his music, but him himself, was because of this. It takes great courage in today's hyper critical world to honestly share your heart, thoughts, and talents knowing folks are gonna try to tear you down. Chad ignored the fear and took up his ''slingshot" and put that Goliath in his grave. It's not the notes or words Chad played and sang that impacted me, but how honestly he played them. Just by being himself, he challenged to take a long hard look at myself and why I do what I do. Even though he was, Chad never set out to be a guitar hero. He just happened to be one by being himself. But Chad was more than just a musician. Chad was one who was a friend to all, and to some more than a friend.......a brother. No words could ever express how much Chad blessed me in my life as a whole. Trying to do so now feels vain, but because of his impact on me and how thankful I am that God put this man in my life to make it better I can't keep from trying. His impact on my life will continue until I take my last breath, and I'm sure alot of others also. Chad's life was like a song that stays in your mind like ''peanut butter on the brain" that you find yourself singing even when the music isn't playing. Now that the song may never ''play" again, that ''song" will always be in my heart impacting me to become a better man. God Bless you Chad Stephenson, I will truly miss you...........

It was our great pleasure and honour to get to know, and share a stage with Chad during a show he did at Theatre Bristol. He touched our lives forever with his smile, and the memory of the gift of music, and happiness that he shared with us, and so many others will light our memories, and hearts, forever. His life was truly a symphony, a true masterpiece, a work of art... and all of us who knew him are the more blessed for it.

Our condolences, thoughts and prayers are with his family.. and with all of us who are coming together in mourning his loss.

Rest in peace, Chad... you are loved..and will be dearly missed.

It has been almost thirty years since we first said hello, and today I can't believe that you are gone. With no words to say just how sad I feel. I will just say that it was an honor to have known you, and a pleasure to have called you my friend. A part of you will always live in my heart because you were so important to me. So it is with the greatest of regret that I now say goodbye. My heart goes out to all of your family and loved ones in this time of great despair.

I'd like to express my deepest sympathies to Chad's family and friends. Chad was not only a great guy, but an extremely talented musician and a very gifted teacher. His love of his children and his smiling, outgoing personality were only two of the most admirable traits he possessed. His love of music and teaching ability have been a blessing to me, and my life is richer for having know Chad as a friend and teacher.

Chad loved The Beatles. Chad passionately playing "Let It Be" at O'Mainnin's, Rhythm & Roots, 2011.
