To the Horn family, my condolences for your the loss of your son. I saw Chad's picture and date of his ultimate sacrifice on a memorial in Buckhorn, Ont. It brought tears to my eyes knowing how brave your son was in battle and the loss your family and those that knew Chad have endured. Although I didn't know son, I would have been proud to serve with him. Rest assured that Chad's sacrifice will not be forgotten.

My condolences go out to all of you at this time. I would have recognized Chad's smile anywhere. I was Chad's Grade One teacher at Braeside. He was quiet back then but a twinkle in his eye meant there was mischief a foot. Tiffany had that same twinkle and those dimples. It is hard to understand why such tragedy happens but through faith and the support of family and friends it isn't easier maybe just bearable. You are all in my prayers. I am sorry that I was not able to attend Chad's service, I was out of the country until the end of September. May his memory be eternal.

Dear Jim; I am an old high school chum and I am so very sorry for your loss. Wendy Miles met me at the Calgary airport on Sun. Sept. 14 with your sad news. I was coming home for my own Dad's funeral which was the same day as Chad's. I would have liked to have been in with the hundreds of people who attended Chad's funeral. He made the ultimate sacrifice for us and my family and I will be forever grateful. Your precious son will never be forgotten.

My 4 year old daughter, just starting in Kindergarten in Calgary, asked why the Canadian flag at her school was flying so low - I explained to her that a brave Canadian soldier had died to help others. She sang "O Canada" in the van on the way home from school.
Thank you for your sacrifice.

My husband and I did not know Chad however he is the nephew of a dear friend and our hearts go out to the family. He was so well thought of and remembered by his teachers that the Calgary Public School Board asked all schools to lower their flag to half mast in his honour. He is surely a great loss to everyone.

Anita, and all Horn family
As a mother I know the depth
of love for the gift you welcomed and nurtured
How precious the years of baby
and child
How fleeting, then gone
the golden time
of memories to treasure forever
In the fullness of his youth
and promise
Chad has given that gift of his life
Now in your equal measure
of fierce pride and exquisite pain
With profound sorrow for your loss
Know that I am grateful
Know that I acknowledge
The true value of Chad's sacrifice
Know that Canadians will never forget
Sincerely,
V. Lindebner

Dear Anita,
My heart goes out to you and your loved ones. I had heard of Chad's choice to serve in Afganistan. I felt his choice was honourable and brave. I feel great sadness that he will not be returning home to you with his fellow soldiers. I think of him as a young boy with an endearing smile. I know he will be always fondly remembered and dearly missed
With love from shirley and family

Our hearts and prayers are with you in this time. I remember meeting your kids years ago at your house with my uncle Bruce. And then running into you on the bus a few years ago, you were always very kind to us and have a wonderful family. I cannot imagine what you are going through, but you are in our thoughts and we are deeply sorry for your loss.

Our son, Pte. Jordan Kochan, served with Chad in Afghanistan, and was part of the patrol that was attacked when Chad died. As parents of these young men serving our country, we are so proud of them for their bravery, but we are also so scared that they will not be coming home. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers, and Chad's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

It has been a sad time since hearing about Chad's sudden passing. I had the privilege of hanging out with Chad a few times before he left for training and thought he was a fun and kind-hearted person. He was a brave man for fighting for what he believed in. My deepest sympathies to Chad's family and close friends. He will be missed by many.

Anita,
I was so sorry to hear the terrible news regarding Chad. How proud you must be that he sacrificed his life while trying to help others, something that one so young doesn't usually have the wisdom to do. My heart goes out to you at this time, from one mother to another. Sandie Tucker {Dr. Elzinga's red headed nurse}
