Charles BARBER Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 16, 2014.
BARBER, Charles Charles (Pat) Barber, formerly from Tucker, GA, passed away peacefully at his home in Panama City Beach, FL, on Saturday February 8, 2014. He was born December 20,1934 in Atlanta, GA. He was 79. He is predeceased by his parents, Inez Hitchcock Barber and Calvin C. Barber, siblings Oscar, Calvin, Mildred, Betty and Martha and by his loving wife of 50 years, Terressa Dykes Barber. He is survived by his son Scott Barber and wife Sharon, daughter Donna Barber Peairs and husband John, daughter Cheryl Eaton, daughter Deryl Ucuncuogly and husband Jony, grandson Brandon Barber, numerous nieces and nephews and his dogs Prissy and Rocky. He graduated from Murphy High School in Atlanta, GA in1952 and was on the Varsity football, track and basketball teams. He was quoted to be "Tall, dark and most handsome". He worked 45+ years in the advertising and printing industry. He helped come up with the famous Coca Cola Polar Bear theme and numerous other ideas for other well known companies. He had a passion for fishing, camping and hunting. He stayed a big kid until his health recently "aged" him. He loved everyone he met and enjoyed sharing stories. Most of all he loved the Lord with all his heart and made sure that his children would also come to know Jesus in their own way as well. He is at peace now. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date in Georgia because we will be honoring and celebrating both of our parents at the same time before spreading their ashes.

Pat was my Grandpa Calvins brother. I just remember what a wonderful man and family all of the GA relations were when I went to visit them all as a child in 1978. My visit to Georgia with my grandpa's Cals family is on of my most treasured holiday memories. Just wanted to say Pat's memory does live on.

A sad time for wonderful old memories; Pat and I were both born in late December 1934, grew up on Wyman St. and graduated from Murphy the same year. We spent a lot of time "hanging out" at the Barber home on Wyman St. planning our next great adventure. We had not talked for many years until the time of the last Murphy reunion when he called me for a nice visit during my time in the hospital for heart surgery. My sincere condolences to the family.

I've known Pat since 1964. We worked together for a dozen years or more, the last five at my ill-fated company. When I last spoke with him - right after Terri passed - he told me of a long list of ailments and surgeries he had endured, however, his attitude was good and he seemed to be getting along well at the time.

I'll always remember Pat as a good man with a big smile and a big heart. I'll always regret that he, like several others, got caught up in one of my many mistakes when I had to reduce the staff at the company to stay alive one more day.

Although hurt, in time Pat's big heart was able to forgive and forget. RIP old friend.

To the Barber family my late husband Gene was one of Pat's many friends. We used to go to Pat's and Terri's a lot. Donna and all you children just remember that you were loved dearly by your parents. You will miss them but they will always look after you.
