Charles Stephenson Barker

Charles Stephenson Barker, 76, of Connelly Springs, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, following a period of declining health. He was a loving husband, father and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Charles was born on February 26, 1940 in Halifax County, to the late Elmer Barker and Florence Craddock Barker. He was a member of Walker's Chapel Baptist Church and was a retired truck driver, working for over 52 years with Shull Trucking and Sunbelt Trucking. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Derrik Barker and one great-grandson, Tristan Dula. Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Sadie Price Barker of the home, his children, Keith Barker and wife Sherry of Rhodhiss, Penny Glick and husband Mark of Connelly Springs, Michael Whitener and wife Karen of Lenoir, Vicki Gantt and husband Tony of Vale, Allen Whitener and wife Melanie of Kings Mountain, Elaine Ingle and husband Shaun and Sharon Issacs and husband Mike, all of Georgia. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 4:00 P.M. at Walker's Chapel Baptist Church, with Rev. Danny McNeely and Rev. J.D. Grasty officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from, 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
