Dear Donna, Greg,& RaeAnn,
I was deeply sorry to hear about Charlie. I truly believe him to be the standard by which all father's, husband's, and friends should be measured. I loved him dearly and I will treasure all of my memories of time spent with him. He was just a big Teddy Bear...and everybody loves Teddy Bears, don,t they? I am so sorry that I could not be there to pay my respects to a man I dearly loved and respected. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you now and forever.
With my deepest sympathy & love,
Cindy Mendoza

My wife, Brigitte and I moved to Pueblo four years ago. I am a “new comer” to the Pueblo area and hopefully in another 46 years or more I will be accepted as a Pueblo “local.” However, I am a US WEST telecom retiree and my service with the “phone company” was enough for Charlie to accept me as a friend and Fraternal Order of Eagles brother with no reservation. I regret that I did not have the opportunity to know Charlie and spend time with him and Donna as long as his family, co-workers and friends did. Charlie represents the epitome of Telcom Pioneers who served as my role models and mentors early in my career. Charlie represents the hard working, dedicated employees who went over and beyond to get the job done. The postal creed of “ Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night….” pales to the commitment made by construction and outside plant “phone company” employees who toiled to provide “dial tone” to their customers. Charlie told me that early in his career he worked the entire length of the pole line from Pueblo all the way through the canyon to Salida. He made personal and physical sacrifices not for the paycheck but to provide service for our customers. He was recognized and promoted to I&M Supervisor because of his technical ability but more important because of his ability to share his knowledge and skills with his fellow workers and new hires. In our business one could not survive in first line management without the support and respect of peers and subordinates. Charlie had both. His passing is a loss not only as a husband, father, supervisor and friend but a loss of values and beliefs not achieved, recognized and respected today as they should be. Charlie Barklay lived his life to these standards because he believed in them. He was proud to be a “Bell Head.“ Charlie was a class act. I will miss him and the entire generation of valued Telco employees who he represented. God bless him and keep him and what he stood for in our memories.

Donna & Family I am so sorry for your loss.

I see Willis and Charles shared the same birthday, I did not know that, however Willis was older. Hired on with Mt. Bell at the same time also.

You are in my prayers

I really enjoyed the online photo gallery.

As a youngster, when in Colorado I always looked forward to visiting Uncle Charles and Aunt Donna, and spending time with Greg and Raeann. I hope you will accept my condolences and regrets since I cannot be with you this Friday.
