Charles Bray Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 21, 2023.
Charles "Chuck" F. Bray, 65, of Phoenix, Arizona unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, December 9th, 2023. He was the son of Charles and Marna (Bannister) Bray.

Known lovingly by his family as "Chuckles", Chuck had a huge heart and a contagious laugh. Having spent much of his life in Illinois, he was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, despite their often-poor records. He enjoyed fishing, camping and attending the annual Blottopia music festival, as well as Lineball weekend with his close friends and family. Although he had not been able to visit them recently, he also held a special place in his heart for the cabins in Webb Lake, WI and Glen Lake, MI. One thing Chuck did not enjoy was cold weather, which is one of the reasons why he eventually left Illinois to move to Phoenix where he could be with his sister and niece and nephews. Family meant everything to Chuck, and he always made sure to let everyone know how much he loved them. Before his death, he was living with his nephew, Damian, who was also Chuck's best friend. He was an extremely hard worker, and had just recently retired from Southern Tire Mart. He was in absolute bliss in his retirement, and often bragged about it to his family members. He will be dearly missed by all.

Chuck is survived by his sisters, Susan Ghoston and Kimberly Wolff; his brother in-law, Robert Wagner; his nieces and nephews, Stefanie (Kenneth) Kryger, Tiegan Banbury, Timarie (Anthony) Padilla, Alina (Benjamin) Wagner Byanski, William (April) Ghoston, Damian Ghoston, Tyrone Ghoston, Marna (Ron) Hall, Derek Baldwin, Danielle Baldwin, Amy Wolff, Ashley (Mando) Quintanilla, Emily (Darrin) Schairer, several great and great-great nieces and nephews, and countless friends from around the country.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Wagner, a brother, Steven Bray, and a nephew, Christopher Ramont. A celebration of life will be planned for a future date.

On this anniversary month of Chuck's death, I just want to share a memory, a moment. He was always good at remembering special events for Dave and I. Often sending a birthday note, or anniversary. I didn't get that from my own family, but this amazing man did. It meant alot. The remembering is healing for me and I have a small vial of his ashes which I placed with his pic in my home in a place of honor. Why because he deserves i! I wish I had personal pics that we took of him but I am enjoying the pics I see shared.

We were vendors selling dragons at Chuck´s favorite concert Mr. Blotto and he walked into our booth and was smitten with an old and rare Enchantica piece called Hoolock the Wizard. He called it Moolock and from that day it was a standing joke whenever we saw him. We became good friends over the years. He never forgot our birthdays or special dates. We miss him dearly and loved him to pieces. I wish I could hug him one last time.

I met Chuck when I was researching my Bray family, and though I never met him in person, I adored him. He was so dear to me, and to my brother, Jeff. I had hoped we would meet one day, but we loved him as if we had known him all our lives. Rest easy, Chuck!
