Charles Cecot Obituary
He was born on January 11, 1947, in Proctor, Vt., the son of Charles Peter Cecot Sr. and Sofia Pentowski Cecot.
Pete was an Otter Valley Union High School varsity athlete in soccer, basketball and baseball, graduating in 1965.
He was employed at Roger Bird's Lumber Mill, and Moore Business Form before assuming operation of the family dairy farm.
He married Linda Bird in 1966.
Pete loved tending livestock, raising crops and loving his family and friends. He was an avid deer hunter and always looked forward to deer camp.
On June 28, 1997, Pete married Nancy Sweatt and they shared a remarkable love, for the animals, for the farm, for their family, for the simple things in life and especially for each other.
Pete lived his life, "on his own terms," exhibiting strength, perseverance, integrity, and tenacity. He was a man that left an impression on the lives of many.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Nancy; his two daughters Jill Markowski and Kelly Cecot; one son Robert Cecot and two stepsons Michael and Dennis Sweatt; his sister Charlene Eddy; "Bop" was also an amazing grandfather to eleven children, Joshua Lester, Jacob Sweatt, Cody Newton, Alyssa Sweatt, Katie Sweatt, Emily Sweatt, Benjamin Markowski, Sophie Markowski, Megan Cecot, Ashley Cecot, Molly Cecot and one great-grandson Carson Lester.
Farming was a great passion for Pete, and he was well aware of the inherent risks. Pete was a survivor of a tragic farm accident in 1982 and he passionately continued to farm despite his injury.
Each year Vermont farmers sustain disabling injuries as a result of their profession. The Vermont Agriability Project through the University of Vermont is dedicated to providing education and technical assistance to disabled farmers so they can continue to farm in Vermont.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory can be made to UVM EXT: Vermont AgrAbilty Project and sent to Nancy Cecot, 764 Hollister Quarry Road, Brandon, VT 05733.
In honoring Pete's wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A memorial gathering in "Celebration of his Life" will be held Monday, October 29, 2012, at St. Alphonsus Hall in Pittsford from 3 to 7 p.m. A memorial tribute will be held at 6 p.m.

Dear Jill, Kelly, Rob, Nancy & families. We are both so saddened at the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and our friend and brother-in-law. Pete shared our lives for many years and was the one who introduced us to one another over 40 years ago. He and Sonny were "brothers" for much of their lives and they were fortunate to share a long conversation a couple of weeks ago near Dean's bridge - shooting more than a few buck and laughing about their escapades from the past. Our lives have been forever intertwined and we are still "family" no matter the changes over the years. Pete was a good man who loved all of you completely and totally without reservation. He was a man of enduring strength and determination with a fierce work ethic whose pride and persistence carried him through what most men could not have borne. His children were his greatest source of pride and we are so glad that he had you, Nancy, to be his loving wife and companion these past 15 years.
