Charles (Chuck) Bogatie Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 26, 2023.

Charles (Chuck) Bogatie, 78, of Cumming, GA passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.  Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Sue Bogatie.  He is survived by his wife, Roberta Bogatie (married 54 years) and daughters Cindi Dailey (spouse Dave) and Melissa Santiago (spouse Paul); grandchildren Shane (spouse Amanda), Lauren, and Alex; and great grandchildren, Kayleigh-Ann, Abigail, and Blake.

Chuck was born and raised in Pittsburg, KS.  He played baseball as a pitcher throughout high school and served as an umpire in college.  He graduated from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS with his BA and MS in Physical Chemistry.  Upon his graduation, he and Roberta were married in 1968 and was later commissioned in U.S. Army in the Chemical Corps from 1968 to 1970 when he was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant.  He received his MBA at Augusta University, Augusta, GA. He spent 39 years in the pulp and paper industry and retired as a General Manager in Hopewell, VA.  Shortly afterwards, he and Roberta moved to Cumming, GA to be closer to family.

Chuck loved spending time with his wife and family and was very active in his community and church, especially the Knights of Columbus where he was a Grand Knight in 2011 to 2013.  He was very active in men’s groups and bible studies in his church.  In various cities, he was a member of the Lions Club and Rotary Club.  He volunteered as a Watch Dog at his grandchildren’s elementary school.  He also led the effort and worked with the school board to start the girls high school soccer in Bay County, FL.

Chuck also loved watching and attending sporting events with his family.  He especially enjoyed going to watch the Atlanta Braves and Falcons and even enjoyed cheering for them (unless his beloved Kansas City Chiefs and Royals were in town).

Chuck also enjoyed spending time with Roberta and enjoyed taking her on special trips, especially in celebration of their anniversary. In fact, for their 25th wedding anniversary, they visited London, England.  Later for their 50th wedding anniversary, they visited Watercolor, FL and enjoyed spending time exploring the community on the beach with their family.  The most recent memorable event was spent at Callaway Gardens, GA with all of the family.

He was extremely outgoing, thoughtful, and loved to bring smiles to everyone around him.  He never met a stranger he didn’t like and loved doing for others. He was a true Southern gentleman.

The funeral will be held at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 3400 Old Alabama Rd., Johns Creek, GA 30022 on Tuesday, January 31st at 11AM where Chuck will be placed in the Columbarium with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following organizations at St. Brigid Catholic Church:  Knights of Columbus (Council #13204), Habitat for Humanity, and Mustard Seed.
